SWC Mike 'Dorkman' Scott Injured, Needs Our Help

Michael is making slow but steady progress. He is continuing his physical therapy and preparing for his operation on December 22nd. Please keep him in your prayers.

FB update:
Michael's surgery was a success. He is now recovering and will stay at Cedar's until the 26.

FB udate:

Michael will be at Cedars until at least January 5. He will be on a new insurance policy as of Jan 1 and the new insurance co. won't be able to ok the transfer request until Jan 5.
His previous facility won't take him back until then. We are thinking of moving him to a skilled nursing facility directly, since he was scheduled to go there in a week or so anyway.
While Cedars is a fine facility, Michael does not have access to physical therapy and cannot go outside during the day like at his previous hospital.

FB update:

Michael's family would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the amazing support you have shown for Michael since his accident. It is difficult to believe it has only been slightly over 3 months since that fateful night. Act 1 has now concluded with his last operation on Dec 23.
2015 will see Act 2 play out as Michael continues to improve both physically and mentally. As this new phase unfolds we will be keeping everyone "in the loop."
Again, thank you for all of your support.

 

FB update:
Michael will be moved to a new facility tomorrow. He will begin his speech and physical therapy immediately. It is going to be a difficult time, as he will be pushing his body more than he has been able to in the past 3 months. But we know he is a fighter and when he wants to get something done, he does. And with his family and friends by his side, as well as the support from all of you, we are hopeful he will continue to make progress everyday, and one step closer to recovery.
Continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

 

FB update:
After 5 exhausting days and several threats of litigation while we battled his new health insurance company, Michael was moved to a long-term rehab center on Friday. He will be getting physical therapy 6 days per week and speech therapy 3 days per week. We are optimistic that this intensive schedule will allow him to make substantial progress.

 

FB update:
This has been a very exciting week in Michael's progress. Tuesday and Wednesday the physical therapists had Michael in a harness standing at a counter, to help him regain his sense of balance. He is not putting all his weight on his legs yet with the harness, but enough to start getting a feeling for it again.
Yesterday, they had him in the harness standing at the parallel bars and he took his first steps since September! And today he took a few more! Such a huge accomplishment and milestone in his journey to recovery!
Michael still has a long way to go in building his strength and balance, but we are so proud and thrilled to see such fire and determination from him.

 

FB update:

Getting up with full weight on his feet. He still needs a lot of help and cannot be up for very long. But we are so proud of him and everything he has done. We know he will continue to amaze us all.

FB update - Michael will have his feeding tube removed today. He is eating soft and pureed foods for now, but is working on moving to more solid foods soon. Progress!.

 

I shall donate part of my profits on Monday trading futures to this guy if its a good day,and it usually is..god bless

Michael was officially upgraded to solid food today at the facility.

Couple of FB updates:

Michael began to be able to vocalize for the first time today! No words yet, but sounds like "ah" "bah" "mmm". We are overjoyed and excited! We are on the road to speech!!



For Valentine's Day, Michael's parents, sister, brother-in-law, brother, niece and nephew took him to the IHOP, located across the the street from the facility, for brunch. This was his first time in a restaurant since the accident. Everyone came with a Valentine card for him, and he enjoyed opening and reading some, and asked his mom to open and read some to him.
And his niece, who hasn't seen him since December, was shocked and excited at how much he has progressed since then. Rolling over by himself, putting on his own hat, assisting his mom as she lifts him off the bed and down into the wheelchair, and opening the cards by himself.
It was a very special Valentine's day for his whole family this year.

 

That's really nice to hear about, made my day.

 

FB update - Michael spoke words today!!!! Very softly, but words!!!!! Yay!! We are all so proud of him!!!

 

I missed this thread as I usually don't read the pinned stuff on this forum. Great to see he is making progress! He is in my prayers.

 

First heard of this on Twitter shortly after the accident. Great to read he's making substantial progress.

 

FB update:

Michael continues his physical, occupational and speech therapy and is improving slowly. The insurance only covers a few more weeks at his current facility and we are looking for a facility with more intensive therapy to accelerate his progress. We will let everyone know as soon as we have chosen a new facility.
