SWC Mike 'Dorkman' Scott Injured, Needs Our Help

Sounds like he is getting out and about:

Michael visited the Getty yesterday. He loved looking at and reading everything. His new glasses are making a huge difference! And one more check off the list of things he wants to do!

 

FB update:

At therapy today, Michael walked with 2 canes for about 25 meters. And then with just one for about 15 meters!
We are so proud of him!

Michael does therapy during the week, daily exercises at home, but we have been trying to find other things for him to do that can help in his recovery.
Today he took his first private ninjutsu lesson. We didn't know how he would do, and he did great! He worked on some strikes, deflections, even a little escrima work. He looked so focused, relaxed and happy being out there on the mat. He really enjoyed it, and we hope to continue this for him.

We had a wonderful time today with Michael and his friends at the California Science Center. He really enjoyed the Endeavour exhibit. And he also did the whole outing with his 4 wheel walker! He only sat down at the very end, and we were all tired at that point. Always pushing himself, and never ceases to amaze us! Another check off the list!

Michael's accident was one year ago today.
It's been a very difficult, challenging, emotional time for all of us.
Through it all, Michael has always shown what a true miracle and fighter he is. He amazes us with his determination to get better, one step and one day at a time. And although he still has a very long road to recovery, we know he is going to make it.
We would like to take this chance to say Thank You to every single one of you. Your kind words, encouragement, videos, messages, and posts mean more to us than you could know.
We always knew Michael was loved and an incredible man, but without you all, we never would have known how many he has touched and inspired across the globe.
Thank you for being with us on this journey to Michaels recovery.

 

FB Update:

Michael was very happy to attend the belt promotion ceremony for his niece this weekend. He was all smiles as he watched her break her board and clapped as she received her yellow belt.
Having him there meant a lot to her too. The smiles say it all.

The past 6 weeks have been busy!
Michael has now moved to group therapy twice a week. He has recently started to work on going up and down stairs, as well as a few group outings and a holiday party with the group.
We all celebrated Thanksgiving together. It was a small affair, but filled with smiles and laughs.
We cannot express how happy we are that the Christmas season is here, and we get to spend it with Michael. We have a few fun things planned this month, like possibly a Disneyland trip. But mostly, we are just happy to have him here at home to celebrate this holiday with.

I wonder what Michael thought of TFA. My gtandma is the most casual of fans and yet when she came out of the cinema she pointed out how with millions of dollars for a budget, their lightsaber duels still weren't as memorable as Ryan vs Dorkman

From FB - at least he's seen the new film!

The past 2 weeks have been filled with a lot of joy for Michael.
He visited where he worked, and saw many smiling faces and received a R2D2 signed by his co-workers. He spent Christmas with family and friends. And he saw the new Star Wars at a private screening in Burkank at the Disney Studios.
It was a great way to end the year.

FB update;

During physical therapy, they are now working with Michael on walking with NO assistance. No walker or cane. It's only for short periods, and it does make Michael a little nervous, but he is doing it! We are so proud of him!

 

FB update:

He wanted to practice walking without his walker today. He only had the belt on, just in case He lost his balance. He was looking really confident, stable and happy. Short distance right now, but he will work up to more. Eye on the prize, one step at a time. Go Michael!

 

He'll be using his lightsaber in no time.

What a trooper. Go Michael!

Comic-Con San Diego sold out within an hour of badges going on sale.
Luckily, we were able to score badges for Saturday and Sunday! Michael is very excited to attend this year with the family. And we are overjoyed that he feels confident enough this year to take it on!

This week Michael started a new round of therapy, including horseback riding. He did a great job his first time. He enjoyed it and we are excited for him to go back next week for more. We are so proud of him.

FB Update:
Today is Michael's 33rd birthday. We are grateful to all of the support Michael has received from his friends over the last 18 months since the accident. A year ago Michael was still in the hospital and didn't feel like celebrating his birthday. Today he is enjoying his friends -- some of whom he hasn't seen since before the accident. He is very happy.

Happy Birthday to him!
