Senate Turkey and democracy (formerly: Military coup happening now, in Turkey)

And apparently Erdogan is asking for the death penalty to be legalized again and had a crowd of people cheering in support of that.

 

Literally everything that could go wrong for the plotters did go wrong. Then again, many coup attempts fail so it's not like it's an easy thing and should have been a cake walk.

But just one suspicious thing too was that Erdogan claimed his seaside villa on the Aegean was bombed in an assassination attempt. Locals posted pictures showing it was completely unscathed.

 

I am avoiding speaking too explicitly about this mess, so instead I will just repost these two completely unrelated images:

Turkish Twitter users are reporting police stopping individuals and demanding to see social media messages. Remember, "democracy was saved"

Erdogen has announced, if Parliament brings in a death penalty bill, he will sign it. If that happens, EU will end ascension talks (guarenteed) and probably reduce cooperation.

As they should. If he continues down this path, they should be booted from NATO and talks of full membership in EU should be tabled.

I have no idea what kind of point you're trying to make, but no one is saying that only Islamists treat minorities badly. We're saying that Erdogan's supporters are both islamists and treat minorities badly.
