    It does seem quite small.

CairnsTony, do you mean this model may only be used in "these are small, those are far away" [face_tee_hee]) shots, to show the ship in the distance as the heroes approach or walk away from it?

Or the X-wing is larger than the previous version.

Most estimates of how big the Falcon should be, put it at about 35 m long. The classic X-Wing was 12.5 m long. If this Falcon is also around 35 m long, then the X-wing (looking nearly half as long) would have to be on the order of 17m or so.

One of the X-wing pilots isn't very bright, so it needs to be explained to him that the Falcon is 'Far away' which is why it looks small from where they're standing.

Does anyone know how long that make of construction vehicle is? That might be enough to get a ballpark estimate of the Falcon's length, and maybe even the X-wing's.

Check out this image I just put together. You can see how big that engine/generator is to people, then see how big it is next to the X-Wing and guestimate it's size compared to the falcon.

If I recall RotJ correctly, the X-Wings were about the length of of the Falcon's "main compartment" - from the rear to the gun turret.

*sniff* *sniff* "Wow! That smell just hasn't gone away in the five years since dad died on this ship. Sometimes these Jedi senses are just so annoying!"

Daisy Ridley will be the pilot of the Millennium Falcon in Episode VI.

She either steals it from her dad/uncle (whichever Han is) as an act of rebellion or while he is away on a mission she needs a ship to undertake her own adventure.

Yes, but I can't tell what it looks like - I wonder if it going to be different.

Yes. There's definitely something on top of the scaffolding on that side.

I'm almost certain that's a scaled down version of the Falcon. It's a fairly common money saving technique used on film sets. It has the nifty bonus effect of making smaller sets look bigger on screen than they do in real life. With that in mind, it's likely that the Falcon is just seen sitting in the background of this scene as characters walk to and fro, or towards it. After all, unless they are going to be filmed standing next to it, it'll look just fine, only cheaper to build. Any Falcon interiors that take place on that planet, will obviously have been filmed at Pinewood on the Falcon set.

I quickly outlined what I think looks like the dish so you can see what I am looking at.

Compare it to the size, shape and location of the dish on this reference image.

It looks like this is a background model, something that previous films did through matte paintings or CGI. If they've gone to the trouble of putting a real dish on top, why have they opted to CGI the upper dorsal guns?

Maybe they are moving in the scene?

Maybe if it's only going to be seen from ground level, the guns don't stick up enough to be visible.

The blue sheet/cover in the place the turret would be gives me the impression that there will be a CGI addition. Everyone is presuming the Falcon's going to be exactly the same as before, may be its been upgunned?

If the galaxy has been at peace for 30 years, she might be downgunned or ungunned.
