Coruscant itslef changes during the 3 episodes. Technically is the same city (there are no new buildings, etc.) but it looks completely different. It has to do with the events there.
In TPM, Coruscant seen throuth the Ani's child eyes: full of light and exceptional things: [IMG]

In AOTC we see very different faces of the same city: the first shot is in clouds, after that we see the undergroud (dark, dirty, vicious), after that we see the light shots but they are details: the space port and the street where is the Dex Diner. Actually we never see Coruscant in full light in the Saga again (I think even in the short shot of ROTJ)and AOTC itself ends with shot of Coruscant in twilight.
And in ROTS Corsucant is mosty in the dark, it is obvious why. Still it looks very different every time. I wonder if they bother to show what happened n these 'older cities' in ST.

    By the way, great thread.

Good observation. Myself and others have also noticed the kind of "safe-haven" (perhaps illusionary) aspect of Coruscant is lost over the course of the PT.
And like you say, ROTS transitions the galaxy from day to night.

More on Luke's power progression (partially relative to primitives)...

In ANH Luke is knocked out by the Tuskens and Obi-Wan rescues him. Obi-Wan also protects him from the thugs in the Cantina by dismembering one of them.

ESB Luke is knocked out by the Wampa, then in it's cave retrieves his saber telekinetically for the first time, to dismember the Wampa and escape by himself. He then sees Obi-Wan's ghost and Han arrives to rescue him.

ROTJ Luke is mostly responsible for saving Han from Jabba, after escaping from the Rancor and the sarlaac. He takes out Jabba's whole gang.
Plus later he gets them out of being eaten by Ewoks by telekenetically floating C3PO with ease.

    Little neat link...

"Lord Maul, be mindful. Let them make the first move." "Yes my master."

"Welcome home, Lord Tyrannus. You have done well." " I have good news. War has begun."

"Now Lord Vader, go and bring peace to the Empire."

This entirely random observation has probably been mentioned already, but I'm bored, so here's some Republic/Imperial troopers riding on beasts:

That's pretty cool, I didn't really notice those ROTS riders from memory.

Love the kind of translucent effect on the steeds.

Now that I think about it I had perhaps subconsciously made that connection myself, but nice one.

Somehow in 11 years I never noticed those creatures that the Clones were riding. I think I've always been too caught up by the action in the foreground and the swelling emotion of Order 66 in general.

There is literally always something new to discover.

I am so in love with this thread.

To see the continuous progression of these characters, their personal and opposite journeys; to see them move through recurring locations, and understand how time has changed them; to see the progression of the saga, as it is told through repeated shots, as beats are repeated, or altered, from one episode to the next... To see it all at once, like this, is exceptionally moving. It's extraordinary. Bravo, HevyDevy.

I want to add a pair of images I've not seen posted yet, from AOTC/ROTS:

This one hit me after watching TESB recently.

    ANH
Han: "Good against remotes is one thing. Good against the living? That's something else."

    TESB
Luke: "Master, moving stones around is one thing. This is totally different."

Thanks for all these great threads HevyDevy! Your Obi-Wan looking away from the immolation/Luke and the burning homestead post from the first page is one of the best posts I've seen. It's crazy how many times we watch these, and yet we can still make new connections. Well done.

I hope this is the right thread.

The Princess needs to have her ship repaired on Tatooine

was visualized in TPM, but reading up on it I think that would have been the cover for Princess Leia while on Tatooine to recruit Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In ANH Vader ordered "Send a distress signal and then inform the senate that all aboard were killed!" to which the original ANH novelization added his descriptions of Princess Leia's ship as being in a desolate technical state, that could have made the space accident cover story believable.

Add to this that he never, ever asked Leia what kind of business she had in the Tatooine system, possible he asumed she just went there to make the inevitable and necessary repairs (before flying to Alderaan).

Come to think of it, he could have almost told her "Be my guest, I'll take you to a nice, clean cabin on the Death Star and from there we'll fly to Alderaan together..." [face_skull]

ESB - Han saves Luke from freezing on Hoth. Later in the movie, Luke travels to Bespin, where he attempts to rescue his friends (Han being frozen in carbonite).

ROTJ - Leia releases (saves) Han from his carbon freeze.

    Here's another (with MarcJordan formatting)

    ROTS
Obi-Wan: You have allowed this dark lord to twist your mind, until now, until now you've become the very thing you swore to destroy.
Anakin/Vader: Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan! I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire.

    ANH
Vader: Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
Motti: Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels' hidden fort-...

The first act of ROTS is close to being the same structure as the second act of ANH but in reverse.

    ANH:
    1. Heroes escape from planet
    2. Heroes pulled onto battle station
    3. Heroes rescue princess / fight on battle station
    4. Lightsaber duel / heroes escape from battle station
    5. Space battle

    ROTS:
    1. Space battle
    2. Heroes land on starship / lightsaber duel
    3. Heroes rescue Chancellor / fight on starship
    4. Heroes crash land starship on planet

RotJ: Leia tells Luke to run far away because she doesn't think he can bring Vader back to the Light Side.
TFA: Leia tells Han to find Kylo Ren because she thinks he can bring their son back to the Light Side, likely because Luke turned Vader so she knows it can be done.

RotJ: Luke (son) rejects the Dark Side and refuses to kill Darth Vader (father) while on a superweapon the Rebellion later destroys.
TFA: Kylo Ren (son) rejects the Light Side and kills Han Solo (father) while on a superweapon the Resistance later destroy.

RotJ: Emperor Palpatine wants Darth Vader to bring Luke to him so he can be turned to the Dark Side.
TFA: Supreme Leader Snoke wants Kylo Ren to bring Rey to him, presumably so she can be turned to the Dark Side.

RotJ: Boba Fett goes out like a chump.
TFA: Captain Phasma goes out like a chump.

Something I was just thinking about that I don't think I've seen mentioned...

    ROTS
    Padme: I can't believe what I'm hearing. Obi-Wan was right! You've changed!
Anakin: I don't want to hear anymore about Obi-Wan.

    ANH
C-3PO: I'll have no more of this Obi-Wan Kenobi gibberish.
    ...
Owen: I don't think he exists anymore. He died about the same time as your father.
    Luke: He knew my father?
Owen: I told you to forget it.

One Skywalker abandoning his bond to Obi-Wan, one Skywalker forming a new one.
