ST Mirroring in The Last Jedi

Here's a thread compiling the "poetry" of our latest episode. Since it's the middle chapter it makes sense to mirror both Empire and Clones.

The FO installation also seems to house a factory of some sort, mirroring the droid factory of Geonosis and the Cloning facility on Kamino.




Crait seems like a mashup between the white of Hoth and the red-ish of Geonosis.




Walkers, obviously.




I mean, maybe? Flying into a similar-ish opening.



There seems to be a speeder chase on Canto Bight, like in Clones.

completely agree. and i think they are both thinking about their mothers. anakin is worried about his mother and about to go save her. kylo is about to invade crait... neither have seen their mothers in years. it's a "homecoming" for both.

 

TLJ=ESB Rehash confirmed!

 

Very interesting! I've been thinking a lot about the Ring Theory regarding this new trilogy. TFA reflected both ANH and ROTS. I have this feeling that TFA will not mirror ESB or AOTC as much as it will ROTJ. However, that's where it may get interesting...

ROTJ was thematically a return to innocence (the point where we started in Ep 1)

Now, I think there will be plenty of surface visual references to ESB and AOTC, I think thematically, TLJ will be structured to be a contradictory blend of ROTJ and ROTS. They were both finales of their trilogies, but if ROTJ was the return to innocence, then ROTS our furthest point away from innocence and into darkness. TLJ will be an inversion of innocence.

2. Marching in with the troops like Granddfather


3. Inner turmoil, and a possible turn...


4. Innocent creatures caught in the middle...


5. A Jedi hunted down? "When gone am I..."


6. A dive to escape hunters...


7. The hero delivered to the Master of Darkness. "Fulfill your destiny!"

 

It can also be somewhat thought of in reverse order also:

ESB began with Luke as the NEW HOPE - TLJ will begin with Luke being thought of as 'The Last Jedi' - aka NO HOPE "Time for the Jedi to End."

ESB Act 1 battle on LAND in WHITE Snow of Hoth - TLJ Act 1 battle in SPACE in BLACKNESS of space

ESB Act 2 Yoda TRAINING Luke - TLJ Act 2 Luke TRAINING Rey

ESB Act 1 ground battle - TLJ Act 3 ground battle

*ESB ending in BLACKNESS of SPACE - TLJ ending on WHITE dust of CRAIT ?

*ESB Act 3 huge revelatio - TLJ Act 1 huge revelation ?

I think some of the parallels are more than just about a ESB rehash. This scene for Obi is from ROTS, so it does not support the ESB rehash meme we actually have to look deeper about what is the narrative themes for TLJ

 

I did mention it. I just didn't have the Obi-Wan pic in there for reference...But yes, quite a few ROTS parallels.

This one caught my eye regarding ROTJ mirroring: Wide toothed gates...

I love seeing the parallels and mirrors across the films of the saga, but I think we sometimes get carried away with finding similarities between shots that are simply coincidental, as opposed to those that have directorial intent.

 

For sure. I think it was intentional on Lucas' part, but we really don't know how schooled Abrams or Johnson were on that aspect. I think there's some indication that Abrams was at least.

I agree. while i think some of them may be subtle intentional parallels i don't think all are.

There is a clear pattern established that all but guarantees this movie to be quite the downer...just like AOTC and ESB. Not saying bad movies..i love em all....but the second movies in a trio of trilogies is the "exhale" movie of the cycle....the let down, the defeat.
