Missing Dialogue In ESB

Ok, I'm not talking about the new DVD, but I think way back when Special Edition came out, a couple lines were taken out.

It's when Luke and R2 are on Dagobah and R2 is thrown out of the swamp and is all muddy.

I specifically remember Luke saying, "You're lucky you don't taste very good," but it's no longer in there. Instead he says, "You're lucky you got out of there."

Also when R2 is in the swamp, I remember Luke shouting, "R2! Where are you?" But now it's just, "R2!"

Anyone else notice these changes? If this has been discussed before, by all means lock.

 

Yeah, I noticed that they took out the "Good thing you don't taste very good" line... I was a bit upset becasue I always thought that was funny. It didn't have anything to do with anything so why did George take it out?

 

The sound track was in poor condition in parts of the movie thats why unused tracks were inserted.

 

It's not that the soundtrack was in poor shape really. In the ANH commentary Ben Burtt explains how they had to make several different sound mixes and each time they would do a new mix things would change. This is where most of the audio differences in different versions of the film come from. When making the sound mixes for the Special Edition, Ben Burtt used different sound mixes than had been used for the previous vhs releases. This is why things like "You were lucky to get out of there," "Close the Blast doors," "I can see a lot better," and pretty much every other dialogue difference was different.

 

how about missing scens?

Its been awhile since I watched jedi but I swear there was a scene where Luke took off with Anakin in a shuttle before the boom but its either gone or I just missed it?

Also, in the new ROTJ DVD, in the scene where everyone is taken "Captive" by the Ewoks...wasnt there a reference to how the Luke, Han, and Chewie were going to be sort of a ceremonial feast of sorts? I swear I remember that...but now, it's not there. I could be wrong, and if so please corrrect me.

I think Lucas opted to keep "Youre lucky you dont taste very good" line out of Empire for one simple reason. How would Luke know?

Did Luke just decide one day to lick Artoo?

It's bad enough the guy kissed his sister the way he did.


I'm glad that line is omitted. I dont miss it at all.

I really don't need to be wondering why Luke knows R2 doesn't taste good.

I hear that line and wamo. I make a mental image in my head with Luke licking the hell out of R2.
You can't know how something taste until youve tried right!

 

Didn't Leia used to say "No lightspeed?" while they were escaping cloud city with Lando before R-2 fixed it?

All this talk of missing dialogue is starting to freak me out.

When I watch ESB, Han doesn't say "You could use a good kiss"...

I always thought Han Solo saying "Trust me" instead of "I can see a lot better" was just a funnier line. Ditto with "You're lucky you don't taste very good."

 

The sound mixing thing sounds like the best reason they took it out, but I did like that line and I thought it was funny too. I noticed it when the SE came out, but I always forgot to mention it. Thanks for all your replies!
