Mod Squad Update for the week of August 12-18

[b][color=blue]Promotions and Inactivity[/color][/b]

The Mod Squad officially welcomed [hl=lightcyan][color=teal][b]Grilled-Sarlacc[/b][/color][/hl] to the team. He'll be helping out in [link=http://boards.theforce.net/board.asp?brd=10331][b]3SA[/b][/link] and keeping the trolls at bay.

Due to inactivity, several admins were given VIP status. They are [b]Mr. P[/b], [b]General Madine's Hairpiece[/b], [b]Darth Ludicrous[/b], [b]BoB[/b], [b]jasman[/b], and [b]Iron Parrot[/b]. Also, [b]cbjedi[/b] stepped down from his position.



[b][color=red]Icon Selection?[/color][/b]

A new Icon Selection committee was formed and is now in the process of determining what icons will be uploaded for use in the JC. If you like to submit your own icons for consideration, head to [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=8434571&replies=11][b]this thread[/b][/link]



[b][color=blue]Plan for Episode III Forum[/color][/b]

Plans are being discussed for the [link=http://boards.theforce.net/board.asp?brd=10331][b]Episode III (3SA) Forum[/b][/link]. It should make the forum more streamlined and easier to follow. One product of the plan is the [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=8428095][i][b]Welcome to 3SA[/b][/link] sticky thread[/i], which has just been implemented.



[b][color=red]New Policy on Policies[/color][/b]
A new policy on policies was proposed by [b]Sebulba-X[/b]. It reads:

[ol][li]Create new thread or Poll in the ModSquad, preferrable with "Policy Proposal" in the title. Regardless of outcome, discussion remains open for 2 weeks before implementation.[/li]
[li]Sample questions/issues that should be addressed (where applicable) in the proposal include:[blockquote]a. Is this a reaction to a single problem user?
b. What are the benefits to the JC population as a whole?
c. Is this policy easily enforcible?
d. Will it cause more problems than it solves?
e. Is it already covered in the current rules?[/blockquote][/li][li]Create parallel thread in Advisory Council during the discussion period.[/li]
[li]Upon implementation, a separate policy announcement thread should be made in Communications and/or Announcements rather than having it buried in the Weekly ModSquad upadate.[/li]
[li]All new policies have a set trial period, at the end of which it can be pulled and/or reevaluated.[/li][/ol]



[b][color=blue]Political Signatures[/color][/b]

The political signature policy was discussed further, and it was decided that no policy on the matter will be issued in the forseeable future. All involved agree that it was done too hastily, and that the Advisory Council should have been used.

In a related category, the suggestion of allowing some kind of AC presence in the Mod Squad was discussed and overwhemingly decided against.

Additionally, giving titles to AC members was discussed, and the nature of the AC itself is being discussed.

Different ideas were discussed for banners, and a single Halloween banner for the JC was the result.

Finally, problem users were discussed.

Good update, Knightwriter. Intresting one, too. Was there any discussion on the 3NSA? I know that there were a couple of ideas floating about about that forum as well.

 

I like Sebulba's suggestion on allowing public comment on new policies. Is it still a possible approach, or the new MO for getting opinions on policies?

It's still a "policy implementation proposal" at this stage.

But it's looking likely that the above proposal will be the future MO.

Finally. Teh drama can start.

 

Off the top of my head, two weeks seems a little long. Based upon the recent uproar, I think that one week is plenty. There seems to be plenty of people that check these boards that represent a broad sampling of the general posting public. Plus is anything is really contentious, I'm sure a concerned member will post a protest thread in Community or the applicable forum.

 

Good update, though someone might wanna change the forum header to show the new update.

Don't forget 3 days each week are taken up with weekends when traffic is low. And we need time to refine a policy proposal when comments from users and the AC (and other mods) start rolling in, then there needs to be time to discuss the refinements...

However your call that 2 weeks may be too long a discussion period is noted.

 

Yes wstraka5, there was some discussino on the 3NSA idea that you presented to us. It was decided that the moderators of that forum should be the ones to ultimately make the final decision.

That being said, I assure you that stinrab and I have been bouncing ideas back and forth off of each other via PM.
