Which are of course, absolutely essential for the tight running of the boards today.

Stop ignoring my super intelligent post. <img src="http://cdn.aim.com/i/7-Yelling.gif"> It ended the debate. No wonder you people always go on for pages when you disregard truth and logic!

Here is one other thing to consider with the rule/policy.

When a thread starts going off-topic, it's the job of the mods to get people to move back on topic. As others have mentioned, the main purpose of the MS Updates is to inform the users of the goings-on in MS, and allow for discussion of policies mentioned in the update.

The problem is that "nice update" posts are technically on-topic for the MS Update (as they are discussing the update), but they act in such as way that they are essentially off-topic. As with most threads, one or two off-topic posts don't cause problems, but more do.

The policy fills that gap, covering what would otherwise be technically allowed, but still detrimental overall. (And as anyone who ever dealt with BF,T knows, even small gaps like that can be used to drive a truck through the rules.)

The real question that needs to be answered is this: what harm is the policy doing, especially as it is currently enforced? It's inconsistent? Well, then, so are the rules on off-topic posts (as they aren't consistently enforced on every such post, and it's unfeasible to do so). Users can't post quite as much "fluff" in Comms? Again, how is that harmful (after all, there's already a place for fluff, called the JCC)?

I really don't see how the policy is unreasonable, nor why some people have to make such a big fuss over it.

Funny, considering it was a moderator who started it in the first place.

If essentially the MSU is for informational purposes then to solve the showboating of superior HTML skills all MSUs from now on could just be in plain format. That might encourage more people to focus on the information rather than the really cool HTML features.

    Just a thought.

If it's such a problem to have the "nice update" comments so much, I suggest doing what Fan Fiction does with it's updates.

Post it as a sticky, but instead lock it. Make all updates read only.

Sara, while I agree with you there would need to be a venue to discuss any issues raised by the MSU.

But see, doing that would take all the fun out of being a moderator. And we know that being a moderator is such a hard job that they need to be able to play with every little toy at their disposal to make up for the problems that we regular users create.

But Dingo, that is what the ban button is for. We all know how much joy the mods take in banning and warning and locking threads. ;)

Then again, I personally think the staff should at least receive a stipend for their hard work.

Stop. My sarcasm meter is off the scale and it's Sunday night (well, for this Yank [face_mischief]) and there's no one open to fix it.

    But Jada, Touche.
