And a side issue. Jon_Snow is correct. Much cosmic playpus ass would be kicked by Cthulhu.

I would vote to celebrate Cthulhu next Winter rather than any secular holiday... :D

So now it's come down to your religious symbol is bigger than my religious symbol?

    Again with the [face_plain]

Besides, if you'll look at the context of my post as it relates to the reality of the situation, I was obviously refering to the Icons and not the banner. There is no way we can remove any references to religion in what is, at it's base, a series of religious celebrations. Furthermore, the JC being what it is, there is no requirement on the seperation of religion and staff. A completely secular JC is not a requirement of law nor tradition. I find it odd that some athesist think respecting their beliefs means not showing your own.

But the icons we made by the users. There is a public thread where they are submitted. Why did you not go into that thread and ensure your religion was covered prior to uploading if it is that big-a-deal for you?

The mods cannot upload icons that the users did not create.

On top of that, once you brougt up the fact no-one had made any blatantly Christian icons, some were immediately made to accomodate your request - and you still complain.

    "Bah, Humbug" indeed.

Easy, everyone. It is the holidays and you can rest assured that TF.N, the icon makers, the admins, and anyone else involved in the banners meant no harm or to exclude or exude an opinion. Please let's not make an issue out of something that isn't there.

I notice that my title has changed to 'Manager Emeritus'... is that Latin?

    What does it mean?

I believe the mod thinks it means 'former manager'.

To be more accurate it is latin and it means you've retired but retain the title you had immediately before your retiring.

Obviously this isn't true but it sounds good so they don't mind.

    According to dictionary.com:

One who is retired but retains an honorary title corresponding to that held immediately before retirement.

It essentially means "for life (honorary)." Much like you'd see a "Chairman, Emeritus" position for corporate board positions it's essentially someone who had retired after years of good service, and was recognized by peers as someone who would be good to have around to dispense advice but have no real duties ongoing.

EDIT: Wow... three definitions at the same time! :D

Okay, I don't want to start this debate again, but I feel I need to answer an accusation logged against me last night. It was logged publicly, so I answer it publicly. :p

So the JC is important enough for you to become a mod but not important enough for anyone else to care?

I mean in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter if some shmuck gets away with using **** so why are you wasting your time?

Could it be you actually have principles?

Okay, you know why I'm here? Because it's a diversion. I agree. People could flame and curse and swear all they wanted and it wouldn't matter.

That's why this place isn't my life. That's why the book I'm writing happens to be the most important thing in my life right now. In a hundred years, this place will not be here. A work of art can stand for much longer than a hundred years.

The JC is my one diversion. I come here to unwind and have a little fun. I am a mod and I do not count that as a massive responsibility, on the level with writing the Great American Novel.

I said the banner was not important in the long run and you answered that neither was my job important in the long run. Agreed.

I think some people (and I'm not saying you, but some people) have forgotten that the JC is a diversion. It isn't supposed to do anything but let you unwind between the times when you're doing something that is important.

This place is not my life nor will it be. It's fun and when it stops being fun, I'll leave, because who's got time for a diversion that isn't fun?

    *applauds*

Not to throw aspirations on anyone, but it is nice to see a Mod say something like that. Rogue, the thing so many of us forget amist all the drama and brouhaha is that this place is supposed to be about fun. The fun we all have as fans of SW, enjoying each other's company, debating the movies, anticipating the next chapter, etc.

    thanks for reminding us..

oh, and to you detractors of the Great Cosmic Platypus, might I remind you that your precious Cthulhu has Alzheimer's and has forgotten that you, his loyal minions even exist...

    great update, RMCOY.

my city hall has holiday exhibits which include Santa and Mrs Claus, the nativity scene, the menorah, Buddha, and somehing else, possibly from Kwanzaa, plus the normal stuff, as Mr and Mrs Snow people and their little snowbabies, trains, giant blocks, lighted animals, etc, etc, etc. I haven't had a chance to check it out personally yet as I'm stuck at home with a virus

With all due respect, Gatherer, it is very important for moderators to set a good example. The administration has no choice but to impose a zero-tolerancy policy. If you have a problem with the way your situation was handled, you should PM someone about it, rather than making up public.

Ah Gath, 'tis a sad and lamentable day that has come to pass: your great black and yellow visage shall no longer grace our softening stare....

Your always welcome back with us in Victoria FanForce friend, I hope you continue to use our humble little boards as your favoured "diversion" as R1.5 put it.

    And I agree...the latin sounds good. ;)

      A LOVECRAFT CHRISTMAS
      by Paul M. Lemieux, © copyright 1989

Twas the night before Yuletide and all through the hole
Not a creature was stirring, not even a Dhole
Aldebaran hung at the right place at nine
In the hopes that Great Cthulhu would come out this time
The Fungi from Yuggoth, all snug in their caves
Were plotting to turn all the people to slaves
The Deep Ones in Rlyeh, the Ghouls in their graves
Were dancing and singing and acting depraved
When what do my wondering eyes should appear
But a mouldering sleigh and eight corpselike reindeer
With a horrible driver so leprous and reeking
I knew right away that my fear was unspeaking
The reindeer were gross, as they flew up from hell
And It hoarsely whispered and chanted a spell
      Ia Shub Niggurath! Cthulhu ftagn!
      Nyarlathotep! I summon you on!

As decomposed flesh before the charnel stench rise
And meet with the open air polluting the skies
Up to the housetop the horror it rose
And the gangrenous odors assailed my nose
And then in a slopping noise heard on the roof
The lumbering clomping of octopoid hoofs
As I drew in my head and was turning around
The horror lurched into my room with a bound
Its eyes how they pulsate so bulbous and gory
This blasphemous creature so noxious and hoary
I was frozen by fear, my feet woudn't run
I threw up my cookies, this wasn't much fun
It whispered my name and said ``You come with I''
I tried to refuse and it said ``Then you die.''
It came at my throat with its grim claws extended
But a miracle saved its victim intended
I had three Elder Signs in a slot in the floor
It screamed with a fiendish sound and went out the door
It sprang to its sleigh, and its team gave a surge
And away they all flew to the sound of a dirge
I heard it exclaim as it flew out of sight
"You're lucky this time, for the stars weren't right."
