The droids took the place of the peasants from Kurosawa, just with a spacey twist.

Anyway, I didn't like the new Arrested Development cut. It was awkward, and felt like they were playing it safe in a way the show usually didn't.

They make reference to getting authorization to exceed Warp 5 in exactly one subsequent TNG episode, and it's never mentioned again. Marketing materials from around the premiere of Voyager suggest the ship's variable geometry warp nacelles are to avoid damaging space, but that's never mentioned on the show itself, and the ships on Deep Space Nine have no comparable fix and still exceed Warp 5 on a whim.

Silly me, what WAS I thinking?! :p

Manumission has been a thing since Han Solo's Revenge, and has cropped up as recently as Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide.

I don't remember this movie at all except I had the silly books-on-tape cassette thing for it, but suddenly I feel I've underestimated its literary depth all these years.:p

Alternatively, it's the Galaxy of Kanye.

Droids choose to be slaves y'know.

That's the thing -- "revolt of the animals" makes most people immediately think of Animal Farm, but Iron_Lord jumps in with "Bedknobs and Broomsticks!":p

It was the "uplift" bit that really jogged my memory.

Island of Dr Moreau is similar, but involves more outright reshaping - the animals shaped to look (and think) vastly more like humans due to surgery.

Oddly, Bedknobs & Broomsticks never got an entry in on the Uplifted Animal trope page, though its own page makes allusions to Astaroth's Moreau-esque experiments:

    http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/BedknobsAndBroomsticks

    • Expy: Astoroth and his star seem to be inspired by the medieval alchemist and magus John Dee, with some cross-pollination with Faust. His attempts to make animals sentient, on the other hand (as well as his ultimate fate) are rather reminiscent of Dr. Moreau, only with magic instead of science and (presumably) out of benevolence rather than For Science!.

SNL paid the perfect hommage to Legends yesterday, by introducing a theme song for LOTF's Looove Commander.

Corran Horn's son isn't doing so well for himself. :p

"He goes by Kylo Ren now but back then we used to call him Jacen."
    "Ben?"
    "What?"
    "Wasn't his name Ben?"
"No, no it was Jacen, he had a twin sister named Jaina---EITHER WAY HE FELL TO THE DARK SIDE."

Kenan Thompson has donned that Saw Gerrera getup about three times now on SNL. I sort of hope that becomes a running gag on their sci-fi skits... or the next time Adam Driver shows up as Matt the Radar Technician.

It's the story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together. It's Arrested Development.

I love Mercy Kill, I really do, but giving the ridiculous accents that the audiobook gives the wraiths makes it really hard for me to take them seriously.

Why would anyone ever take the Wraiths seriously?

I'll reserve judgment on season 5 til I see it, which probably won't be right away. But the trailer was a little too self-referential and comfortable with itself.

I just signed on to Youtube, and... I dunno... I think they're trying to tell me something? Like I dunno if I should click on it. I'm almost afraid if I click on it they'll start recommending more trippy Separatist vid--wait no wait that's a good thing. That's exactly what I want. I want it as much as the seven things my cat wants on Amazon.

San Hill's exasperated reaction in that edit is so freakin' funny to me.

    "What the hell?"

The bit in the original AOTC scene is so stupidly funny, too. I love it. "The Techno Union Army AAAAoooeeeAAAiiieee*panics a little*AAAiiieeeAAAaaaAAAeeeee is at your disposal, Count." Like, Wat, you had all damn day to adjust your pressure suit, but you go and fiddle with your dials in the middle of your line?
