See the edit. Planned Parenthood's annual report. 333,000+ abortions.

They already do this in India, offering men money to get a vasectomy. It's becoming their alternative to China's One Child Policy.

(And if they ever do make a good living, and are ready to raise kids, they can pay to reverse the vasectomy)

    And?

Eh... nevermind... I have no desire to have this conversation with you.

Do you people honestly not see this as grotesque? If applied only domestically, it would miss the drivers of population growth in the first place, as the industrialized world barely hovers around replacement rates. If applied anywhere, it would give millions the binary choice between desperate, abject poverty and having children. I think it unwise, as a matter of policy, to offer temporary inducements for permanent, largely unalterable changes.

See my post. If it's a vasectomy, it can be reversed later.

But then, would the person doing the reversing have to pay the money back?

But vasectomy is not sterilization, and pregnancy can still occur. 1/100 shot.

They would be paid money to get a vasectomy.

But they'd have to pay for it themselves to have it reversed... so they would need to have the money and a good job. So then any children after the vasectomy reversal are likely to be born to parents that want them and can afford it.

That's why I prefer the vasectomy instead, for this kind of policy, because it's reversible. As you just said, it would still prevent 99% of pregnancies.

Fine... fine! Here's triple your money. Now put on this Ahsoka Tano outfit, slap me around, and say, "I'm going to gut you like a Rokarian dirt fish.!"

Successful vasectomy reversal is not a given, and there are many reasons as to why it often fails.

Why would you even post something like this on mother's day of all days?

I don't know....I've heard that the pain that comes with vas. reversal is almost as bad as having your testicles caught in a paper shredder and doused with rubbing alcohol.

But, if you still want to, go right ahead.

Fortunately for you, that was a good Ahsoka scene.

But can I be Ventress and let Anakin and Obi-Wan chase me instead? Please? :D

Those are pretty audacious assumptions. Do you think that the number of unwanted pregnancies is so dramatically high that instead of just using contraception, people should go invasive surgeries? Do you think that there is much evidence that products of unwanted pregnancies are even treated very badly, once they exist? Finally, especially if we are considering this globally, have you grappled with the fact that your barrier is unreasonably high, in that the vasectomy will probably be far more expensive than raising a child would be?

EDIT: Actually, let's be a bit more on the nose about this.

There are breath-taking disparities in food security, access to healthcare, education, and other points of general infrastructure in Third World countries. Even (albeit, to a much lesser extent on an absolute scale) in the poorest communities in industrialized nations. Yet rather, than credit that perhaps these issues of social structure and government are important, you seem to hint that the issue is whether their parents "want" them or not? This is an embarrassing embrace of Social Darwinism that I frankly didn't expect to see until Rand Paul rolls out his 2016 Presidential campaign.

What are you talking about here?

Also, it's voluntary. India has been doing this for years.

What am I talking about where? The whole post?

The fact that it's voluntary doesn't change the fact that it's wrong.

"If you want a vasectomy, we'll pay for you to get one, plus a little extra."

And I really don't see how many of the things you said in that post have anything to do with what I said, or the topic.
