JCC Mongo only pawn in game of life....

Alex Karras' kidneys have failed. Given only a few days.

While he rose to fame as a tackle for the Detroit Lions....many of us born in the 70s and 80s know him better for a certain movie he appeared in.



And also for having his and his wife's pet TV project royally railroaded by the ABC network trying to cash in on the popularity of "Diff'rent Strokes".

Three guesses as to which character was not part of the original pitch.

 

He's also suffering from dementia which makes this doubly sad and tragic.

 

Presumably from his football career. He is listed as one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the NFL.

i like alex karras and i'm sorry he's in such bad shape, but webster without webster sounds like the most horrible show ever.

 

I liked him as Mongo - sorry to see this.

 

He's passed away.

He was one heck of a football player in his prime, and seemed like a pretty likable guy away from the field. Didn't realize he was married to his co-star on Webster. Very sad news.

Just reading his wiki entry -- didn't realize he was under consideration to play Carlo (the traitorous brother in law) in The Godfather. Would have have had some real believably problems if James Caan had kicked his ass all over the street.

 

I knew this was coming but I'm still sorry to hear it. R.I.P, Mongo...

 

So sorry to hear this news. RIP, Alex!

 

The fact that it was inevitable makes it no less said. May he RIP.
