    The Fall of Coruscant

A long protracted battle where there isn't a sudden change in fortune in the good guys favour.

Obviously earlier War's of the Pre Republic and early Republic era are massively important, but as far as "current" battles, I'd say The second and third battle's of Coruscant were in important.

    Gorram central planets.

I personally like the first Battle of Borleias, the Clone Wars Battle of Coruscant, the Battle of Orinda, and the Battle of Centerpoint.

Though we didn't exactly see it, the battle of Malachor V seemed like it was one hell of a battle

The most important battle was almost certainly the Battle of Endor, but the one that I enjoyed the most was probably Bilbringi.

Battle of Yavin was so important they changed the date system to mark it. :p

They should have changed it to ABE (After Battle of Endor)

It's easier to keep with the EU that way

I agree. I've always thought of post-RotJ stories in terms of how long after Endor they are. If someone asks me when the Thrawn trilogy takes place, the first thing that comes to mind is 5 years after Endor, not 9 years after Yavin. And really, the war was decided at the Battle of Endor, not Yavin.

I have to go with the Liberation of Coruscant. Defeating the Empire was important, but the Empire wasn't changing things as profoundly as a galaxy entirely under the control of the Yuuzhan Vong.

    My favorite? Yavin.
Most important to the EU? Endor. (Unless you read Dark Empire, in which case it apparently didn't matter too much...)

Geonosis, in AOTC. Windu's failure to detain or kill Dooku is what let the Empire rise, which led to everything else up to Vector Prime. Hence the term shatterpoint. :p

True, but you can't blame everything on Mace. You could blame any of the principle characters, in some capacity, for Palpatine's rise if you're going by that line of thinking.

I'd say that Geonosis was important for being the point of no return for the fruition of Palpatine's plan. Of course, most of the galaxy doesn't know this...

I place a good chunk of the blame on Mace for not simply annhilating the arena from orbit, but second place goes to Anakin for pulling a Leeroy Jenkins in the hangar. Had Obi-Wan and Anakin approached Dooku together, instead of one at a time, they quite possibly could have beaten him, or at least kept him from leaving until Yoda showed up, at which point (Obi-Wan + Anakin + Yoda) > Dooku.

Yeah, the Republic has already fallen at Geonosis, it just doesn't know it yet.

However, had Geonosis not gone Palpatine's way, he still would have been around to build a new plan out of the wreckage of the old, or (worst case scenario for him), retire from public life and find a new apprentice to carry on the Sith lineage in secret and wait for another opportunity.

Most important within the context of the star wars saga as we know it is either yavin or endor....HOWEVER, the ones i most enjoyed were Star-By-Star's conquest of coruscant with Borsk Feylya (sp?) left in his office to mull over his complete lack of effective leadership, and the battle over coruscant in Episode III. in SBS, i really got the feeling that all was lost. considering what that battle meant to the NJO (save for the fact that we kNOW the good guys will win in the end) but that was a key moment, along with Chewie's death, and Shatterpoint on a whole, in that i KNEW that no holds were barred within star wars writing and ANYTHING could happen. makes for better stories.
