I saw Underworld also and I liked it.

I saw When a Stranger Calls and it totally sucked.

I saw Fun with Dick and Jane and it was funny becuase of Leonardo Leonardo aka Alec Baldwin. I am over Jim Carey though.

V for Vendetta is another great movie made from an Alan Moore classic graphic novel.

Inside Man is the best Spike Lee movie in a long time.

Yes, Inside Man was really great. Saw it last Friday.

I also realized I never want to see another movie in the theatre again. Can't pause to go to the bathroom...there are total strangers everywhere, the dvd is going to be out in a month anyway, and I can't sit in my own couch at the theatre.

Geographically, going to the movies is a nightmare for me. In HB, there are no theatres that haven't been renovated (or cleaned, for that matter) since the 1970s...there's some new "Bella Terra" theatre that opened close to me, but I just don't see the point.

During Inside Man, I was marketed to for 30 minutes (I timed it..) before the movie even began. I'm sick of commercials. They're on my cable TV (which I pay for), my radio...and during the movies I want to experience. No way. If I want to buy something, I'll do my homework and buy what I need. I can skip past commercials on a DVD.

Ok, if it's a big-time, special effects movie, like Kong, or Harry Potter...I'm there. Otherwise, not going to the movies. Too much hassle.

Welcome to my world starting about a year ago. Aside from all the ads that are thrown at viewers now, we also have to deal with people talking on cell phones, people talking to each other or the screen, and the occasional screaming children. Sure, from time to time you'll go to the movies and not have to deal with that stuff, but lately it seems to happen all the time. The last movie I went to in the theater was Serenity and luckily we didn't have to deal with any of that.

I think my biggest gripe is the same as yours. With all the ads and trailers, you pretty much have to carve at least 3 hours out of a day in order to see a 2 hour movie. That's assuming it's not opening weekend for a movie like HP though, which'll probably cost another 30 mins in line.

I'm with you on the big blockbusters though, with one exception. If I go now, it'll be to a midnight showing because I KNOW that no one will have a cell phone on or be talking in the theater during the movie. The likelihood of seeing a lot of ads is also very low. Sadly, I probably won't be going to very many midnight screenings anymore (requires to much energy).

About the only theaters I'm interested in going to these days is the theater in the Buena Park mall (it's near my house :)) and Big Newport. But like you said, nothing beats sitting at home on the couch where you can pause for a break or rewind the movie because you didn't hear something.

Hopefully Hollywood will soon realize that there's a market for people like us who are willing to pay a small fee to download a movie or get it on a bare bones DVD on opening day to watch in our homes (I'm thinking $5-$10). I'll be the first person to buy one when that day arrives.

I agree that the theater sucks. I go to the drive in a lot because of Marley which is better then the regular theater and cheaper also.

I guess. Snatch is pretty funny. It's one of the movies that sold me on Brad Pitt.

I was thinking more of non-English speaking films. Chungking Express by Wong Kar-Wai is really good. I also liked Kids Return and Sonatine by Takeshi Kitano.

I watched a really bad Korean film in class last night called Lawyers good wife. It was pretty much softcore porn with a gruesome scene of a crazy drunk guy throwing a 6 year old off of a 5 story building which was amazingly done in one fluid uncut shot but was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen in a film. Not Zed and Maynard party disturbing but just as bad.

A really good German movie that I can reccomend is called Jenseits der Stille (Beyond Silence is the American title).

It's about a young German girl with deaf parents. She loves music, and struggles with her father to make him understand why it means so much to her. Very much a chicky-flick, but an awesome movie (though I might enjoy it more just because my mom speaks ASL and so I could understand some of the sign language - even though it's German Sign Language. :D

Isn't sign language universal? When you are speaking to a deaf guy from Chile do you have to sign "el star wars" instead of "star wars"?

I saw a really cool Japanese film called "ping pong". Think of it as a Japanese coming of age story in the vain of bring it on or bad news bears but really good.

Are you implying that Bring it On was not a good movie?

I saw that other Final Fantasy movie. I have no idea what was going on. I don't know if that's because I haven't played the game it was based on, or if the movie just doesn't make sense in general.

    Advent Children?

I haven't seen it, but I've heard that you kind of have to know the story of FFVII to get it, but I've also heard that the graphics are awesome...

I borrowed my friends RENT DVD... I just haven't watched it yet... its full-screen too, seriously, who buys full-screen?!
