Which movies have you seen so far this year? Did they rock your world? Did you lament the $10.95 spent? What are you looking forward to the most? What up and coming films terrify you?

What do you think of this year's May line up since there is no Star Wars movie to look forward to?

Well i think one of the best i've seen is 16 Blocks, Bruce Willis is so amazing, he's old, burnt out, impatient, and fat, and he does an amazing job. Mos Def is so incredible in this movie, it's not like a huge strong character that you go "wow he's amazing!" His character is so subtle and deep and it takes a little while to sink in. I think the worst movie i've seen this year would be The Matador, ewwwwwwww, i don't know where to begin, i used to think Pierce Brosnan was alright, but this shattered my faith in him, i felt so ripped off after seeing it.

Other than Geisha, I've seen two movies in the theatre so far this year:

    Metal: A Headbanger's Journey
This is a really interesting documentary film about the history of heavy metal music. I'm not a big fan of metal music, but I don't think you have to be to enjoy this show. It's an entertaining look at some of the people who shaped the genre, and some of the kooky characters and antics they were up to, and is some cases still are.

    Night Watch
This is a cool fantasy-thriller about the conflict between good and evil. It's in Russian with English subtitles, and is apparently one of the highest grossing films in Russian history. It's part one of a trilogy, and it does leave some important questions unanswered in the story, but the ending still holds up pretty well while still leaving you wanting more. There's also a good bit of humour in there without being too silly.

I saw "Stay Alive" today, and it's a horrible horror film, but if you're a gamer or are familiar with the gamer subculture, you'll find the film HYSTERICALLY funny. My favourite part was the first scene where a guy dies by getting hung on a chain that comes out of NOWHERE. It catches you off guard, but instead of being shocked like any regular horror film, it compells you to start laughing hysterically.. well, at least for me.

The trailer set off warning bells for me. I knew that was going to be a stinker. Most game to movie adaptations are horrendous, especially when they are accompanied by the name "Uwe Boll". The "Silent Hill" film adaption looks like it could pull off something though.

I think the movie we're all really waiting for is Samuel L. Jackson's summer blockbuster. :D

Blockbuster? Shaft 2? The first Shaft (with him in it, I mean) was actually pretty good. Especially since it wasn't a remake, per se, but more of a sequal, seeing as Richard Roundtree was in it as "Classic Shaft", and Jackson was "New Shaft", and no less of a badass than his uncle.

Remakes really cheese me off. I can't believe they're remaking The Omen. That movie scared the holy hell out of people! Same with old school Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the original Exorcist. These are one of a kind movies that can never be duplicated!

What blockbuster? WHAT BLOCKBUSTER YOU ASK!?

I could only be speaking of this.

You know, the big SLJ went from Pulp Fiction to the Star Wars Prequels to this. Kind of horrifies you as to what he could do next.

    ...

Some awesome CG they got going there. Best title ever too.

OK, um... wow. Is that for real? Is it still April 1st?

I don't know how many of you remember, but several years ago they did that exact same thing on Saturday Night Live. For some reason there were cobras loose on a plane, and the pilot (Will Ferrel) got bitten by one.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I've just been bitten by one of the cobras. It's venom is now coursing through my veins, and... I've lost my mind. I see an old indian man gesturing for me to follow him into that hillside... so I'm gonna do it"

Great sketch! Might not be a very good movie, though ;)

Just watched Jarhead. It was SO BAD! Peter Saarsgard was the only good one in it. I was surprised Jake Gyllenhaal was so bad in it. I think he was trying to do the same kind of monotone that Matthew Modine used in Full Metal Jacket.

Here's the difference, though. Full Metal Jacket was an astoundingly well written movie.
    Jarhead was written by one.

Still have to see Syriana. It's out on DVD may 2nd, I think.

I work at Rogers Video and so I watch lots of movies, and right now there's nothing super great out there. A few worth mentioning though, Underworld Evolution, Aeon Flux, Hoodwinked, Grandma's Boy, Hostel, Nanny McFee and Running Scared. There are others but i'm too tired to think of them...
