    Hi,

I dont normally read any of the fan force items or boards, but i have read a couple of Vegas notices because live in Lancaster CA (3 hours away) and i have Loved Las Vegas every time i have been. So much so that i want to move there.

What i would like is to maybe hear from you guys about Vegas. what is it like to live there? do you recommend it or are you just biding your time to "escape"?

    Thanks in advance!

Well, as an outsider, (I live in Pahrump... an hour away), though I did live in Las Vegas for 14 years before the move, I love it. I don't think I'll ever move out once I move back in. I love the way you can have steak and eggs at 2am or just about anytime, or the way every casino has a buffet! It's great. Plus, for locals, everything is free. Lets say you go to one of the smaller casinos, like Joker's Wild or the Gold Strike, andf you play and eat there regularly... soon you will get all your meals comped and get in good with the dealers and workers there. As a local, you can do alot more than a tourist can. I think I'll live in Vegas my entire life.

I love Vegas. Once I'm finished with college, I'll be heading back there. Home is where the heart is. :)

thanks for the feedback, i dont know why i love vegas... it is funny, i dont like alcohol, i dont like drunk people and i dont like gambling because there have been too many addicts of both in my family.... but i love it.

Does anyone think this is strange?
Do you think that i should move there if i dont like gambling or alcohol? am i just being stupid!?! Now just to make it clear... i dont mind them, i just dont want to do them or be too heavily involved in them. (I could not be a bartender)

On another note, i dont want to open another thread so how many people in or near Vegas are making or want to make films? I want to make fan films until i die (Hopefully on set of a film i was making {whilst sleeping in my directors chair})

ANOTHER note connected to that one... does anyone know how much "local" stores are selling Canon xl or gl camera for? i dont know how much of a differnce there would be between taxes here and there? anyone?

I am currently working on a Fan Film. At this point I am using test footage to perfect the lightsabers using Adobe After Effects. I am awaiting a blue screen keying program plug-in to ship. And I am in the outline stage of the story. However, nobody in either of the two Southern Nevada Fan Force's seems to be interested in Fan Films. At least that I have seen. My posts are usually never responded to anyway.

Hmmm that doesn't bode well... But i have the same problem here, where there are only a couple of people nearby who use TFN at all, and of those i canet get many to help... the only few to help so far have to drive 1-3 hours to get here.

Have you tried putting up fliers at any colleges there... or are there any "comic/gaming" shops? Trying things like that here didn't get me too far, but you never know where you are!? Or what about the Rebel legion (when they get their site re-done)?

    Thesabresmith,

In response to your original question. I moved here a little over two years ago. I transferred from a riverboat Caesars owns in Indiana. Originally I am from Connecticut, begining my career at a Native American casino in 1996. I love it out here. No snow is definately cool. In regards to my Fan Film, I will be going back to college this fall and will probably do what you suggested. This is a long term project for me and finding other people with the same kind of commitment is difficult.

Actually I'm VERY interested in making a fan film, I've even done some test footage of lightsabers using Photoshop and Adobe Premiere (it was victim to a computer crash though), contact me if you're interested

Heres another question: Where do i not want to live in Vegas? The east side the west side? north? south? Do i not want to move to a certain place just to save a few bucks, because it is a hell hole?

Is it cheaper to live in Vegas or just outside? Money has been really tight lately saving money on rent is a big issue for me. any help is appreciated! And hearing it from someone who lives there i think is better then some website who doesn't care, they just want my money or what ever.

    thanks

Ok here are a couple of things:

One: I want to thank everyone again for thier replies and re-ask the Where in Vegas should I look to move to? question. Should I move into Vegas itself or somewhere just outside? Are there any BAD ares I should really avoid moving to?

Two: An update, we are going to be be staying here for another year, we are going to sign the lease in a few days. But i am still planning on moving to Vegas, staying here another year is going to help us get on our feet and find somewhere nice to move to. (hopefully with your guys help!)

Three: I just finally got around to putting my website up... i will be updating every few days for a while, but i would like it if you guys could maybe check it out and let me know what you think.

    Thank again

Okay about where not to live:

North Las Vegas and West Las Vegas have the most crime and gang activity, however there are some nice areas in these parts of town.

East Las Vegas, including Green Valley and parts of Henderson are the nicer parts of town, but have their share of crime also. (mostly drugs and vandalism)

If you are going to buy a home, gated communities are good, but have little yard space. If you do not mind living in an open neighborhood, they are usually the best for family living.

It seems to be cheaper the further in Vegas you are. If you want newer homes, they are more expensive and found around the edges of the city. Henderson and Green Valley homes are very nice, and usually not too expensive.

These are all generalizations, and shouldn't be taken as fact, but just opinions and observations.

I'm so glad you both are moving here! It's a great place to live, especially the climate!! Almost no humidity so 90 degrees feels like 90 degrees insted of 120! The best time to move to Vegas is September as the weather starts to cool. You will enjoy the 50 degree winter and have time to brace yourself for the 110 degree summer.

What about various apartment complexes? How do they stack up?

There are a lot of great apartment complexes in Vegas. The nicest and biggest Apartment company is Oasis Apartments with complexes all over Vegas.

The same base rules apply to apartments also. East Las Vegas apartments have nicer neighborhoods, but West Las Vegas apartments are cheaper.

    Apartment prices (approx.):

    Studio $550/mo

    1 bedroom $650/mo

    2 bedrooms $800/mo

    3 bedrooms $950/mo

    4 bedrooms $1300/mo
