HTML codes now can be used

We found out that the ability to use HTML was uploaded sometime recently, however it appears to only be a manager or administrator function. Much scrolling text, tables, big images, small images, bouncy emoticons, and such filled the Mod Squad but soon died down once everyone got it out of their system. We'll use it here and there to draw attention to things or brighten an otherwise dry Mod Squad update. Otherwise, expect the normal markup codes.
Censored

Despite thinking we've seen it all, we're constantly confronted with "is this okay or not" in the Mod Squad. Although folks are aware of the major dirty words not allowed, there are variations on the theme that pop up now and then. Rather than posting a comprehensive list that would more than likely cause more harm than good, I'd like to encourage common sense and to see if your post was edited when you posted something questionable. If it was, it's not allowed.
SW Music/Film Music Hall

Per [hl=saddlebrown]General Kenobi[/hl] and others, the decision was made to go back to allowing discussion of non-SW film scores in the Music forum.
Look I so old to your eyes?

<span style="color: DimGray;font-weight: normal;font-style: italic;background-color: DarkSlateGray;text-decoration: none;border-top: 1px solid Black;border-bottom: 1px solid Black;border-right: 1px solid Black;border-left: 1px solid Black;">Gandolf the Grey</span>did a survey and found out we're all different ages, some older and some younger. As long as we're moderating to the best of our abilities, we found out age matters not.
Replacing Darth Attorney

It was decided that coverage for the SW Saga Forum could be sucessfully backfilled. The moderation of the forum will be done by dehrian, Spike_Spiegel and Darth Dagsy. <b><span style="color: #00FFCC; background-color: #6699FF;">Genghis12</span></b> is in the process of evaluting the EUC forum and the moderating needs for it. If you have anything you may feel could help in this evaluation, please PM [link=http://boards.theforce.net/pm_send.asp?usr=236730&message_subject=EUC+Forum&message]him[/link] about it directly.
USA Today

<b><span style="color: #FFF8DC; background-color: brown;">Joshua Griffin</span></b> posted a Mod Squad thread asking for input on specific threads from our respective forums that demonstrate Star Wars fandom and the level to which we'll discuss minutiae. Despite the article itself being different from what was dicussed, our site was mentioned along with a picture of Josh.
Thank the maker!

The elusive, yet ever-present, <b><span style="color: lime; background-color: black;">zerosleep</span></b> is aware of our recurring technical issues and has managed to fix a bunch of them. Hopefully folks have noticed PM access working much smoother. Thank the maker!
Promotions from moderator to manager

The following members were promoted to manager: [hl=lightgreen]ChrisHanel[/hl], [hl=white]RolandofGilead[/hl], [hl=yellowgreen]Darth Dagsy[/hl], and [hl=cadetblue]AmazingB[/hl]. Congratulations to you all.
Was it ever determined why the only thing listed about this site and SW fandom was the whole "Jar Jar is racist" old bit?

I know if I had some responsibility with this site (owner, administrator, etc.), I would have been embarassed to read this, regardless of who was responsible for its content.

Not by any of us. It may well have been that the editor (or someone there) looked through the threads for an "outraged" reaction situation and used it.

So in the YJCC thread by Saint of Killers, I brought up the censoring of "WTF" and the like, and they were not edited out. Does that mean we are allowed to say those abbreviations again?

I purposely didn't edit them because you were using them to make a point in that thread and it'd get really annoying for everyone if you kept saying "that acronym we're not allowed to say." But until otherwise announced, don't use them elsewhere.

    Amazing.

Thanks to TwiLekJedi, General Kenobi and Rogue One and a Half for their support and work on restoring the Music Forum to it's previous state. I know I speak for all the Music regulars when I say it's made a HUGE difference in my posting there. Nice to have home look like home again.

    AD21...
"So in the YJCC thread by Saint of Killers, I brought up the censoring of "WTF" and the like, and they were not edited out. Does that mean we are allowed to say those abbreviations again?"

As far as anyone's expectations about the moderating of the forums by the administration goes, I would point you to the Terms of Service, which addresses this question quite clearly:
"The Jedi Council Administration is not responsible for messages posted on the Forums or the content therein... Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us. We have the ability to remove messages and we will make every effort to do so within a reasonable time if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to act immediately. Removal of messages is at the sole discretion of the Administration."
Lack of enforcement by a forum moderator (or any moderator) does not carry any implication that such inappropriate content is acceptable.

Since Comms is probably more of an appropriate place to discuss this, I guess I should bring it up here. AmazingB, I may be wrong, but reading some of your posts, you don't seem to agree with the banning of "WTF" either. What is the general mod/admin opinion on this issue? I find it very hard to believe that any regular members like me agree with it, and I am under the impression that some mods don't agree with it either. Has this issue come down to a Josh only decision, because it seems to me that not many JC'ers agree with it at all.

I for one never did use the acronym that much anyways, and to be honest I don't even see it used around that much, the only reason I have a problem with the censoring of it is because it's like we are catering to the kids that have never seen curse words. As I said before, you'd have to be very sheltered to be 13 and never hear a vulgar curse word, so banning all mention of it seems like a cater to the minority, the minority being the groups of kids that come here and lie about their age. I know that the lying does go on, we've all seen the "It's my 13th birthday" threads, so my facts there shouldn't be an issue.

I've never agreed with it, going back to when it was first announced in Comms, way back when. But I edit it, because it's on the "edit list."

I've always felt that the whole point of it was to imply swearing without actually doing so. Kids do it all the time in real conversation.

    Amazing.

My thread in the Welcome New Users forum, "Jedi Council Abbreviations" was edited by Morgaine because the abbreviation:

    WTF = Bad things

    Was not used anymore....

    Some others were also deleted.

    But, I dont mind.

Gandolf the Grey, did a survey and found out we're all different ages, some older and some younger. As long as we're moderating to the best of our abilities, we found out age matters not.

Did my thread have anything to do with coming up with the idea to do one of those Gandy?

"I'd like to encourage common sense"

That would work, if the rules were based on common sense.

"see if your post was edited when you posted something questionable. If it was, it's not allowed."

No, it means that one mod doesn't allow.Mods have been wrong before. Although I've noticed that if a mod goes too far, the other mods often back her up to present a 'unified front', but all it does is give off a conspiracy/blue wall type vibe.

i would like to thank B for using common sense when moderating. i'm serious, not being sarcastic. members are always told to use common sense when posting, which is true. members should indeed use common sense when posting. but sometimes it's the mods who need to be told to use common sense when moderating. B is one of those rare mods that has the common sense to use common sense when moderating.

Wow, i cant believe that "wtf" is even an issue here.....it seems a little thought policish to me, along the lines of not only are you not allowed to swear (well, depending on what you define as "bad" swear words anyway) but you are not even allowed to even give the impression that you think a swear word is appropriate in a certain situation.

This seems to me to go beyond what a resonable internet forum management should be doing. I can understand not allowing swearwords (even though they are common in schools, tv, movies, music etc) on this board, given the oftenstated family values policy of both the owner of this board, and the owner of the intellectual property on which this board is largely based.

This does not give the administration licence to start censoring words or acronyms that may refer indirectly to such swear words. A swear word is a word that is designed to convey a significant depth of feeling in a crude fashion, or for shock value. The use of crude language to convery meaning is what is frowned upon, as it is not acceptable in polite society. As such the word itself is the problem, not the intent, therefore if the word is not used, where is the problem?
