    Ynigwie Malmstien

What ever you do, find one of his CDs, buy it and play it over and over again until each phrase and note is simple recall.

this might be a bit eclectic, but oh well...

NIGHTWISH!!! :D ...no, they're not my favorite... **whistles innocently** - any album except "Angels Fall First" (that one is awful)
In Flames - "Reroute to Remain," "Whoracle" (the only two I have)
Killswitch Engage - "Alive or Just Breathing"
Soilwork - "Figure Number Five" (only one I have)
Dimmu Borgir - just got hooked on "Puritania" ... good god!!!)
Dark Tranquility - also just got hooked on "Monochromatic Stains" :D
Lacuna Coil - "Comalies," "Unleashed Memories" or "In A Reverie" - not very heavy, but still VERY good
Lullacry - "Be My God" - very 80's sounding. :D lots of fun
    Sinergy - again, kinda 80's sounding. :)
Arch Enemy - girl growler (excellent stuff)

heh... wait till Kreator and Bunny get a look at this thread... whoa. ;) (and Deicide, if he ever gets his internet hooked up again)

Yngwie Malmsteen! Wow Void, I'm impressed. Not many but the few die hard fans actually know about him. Very cool music though if your a guitarist and/or bassist.

Yngwie is a great guitarist. I wish he'd put out a strickly instrumental album. For some reason he's still stuck in the 80's (see the hair). I don't listen to him much because most of his songs have really bad lyrics/melodies. His instrumentals are to die for though.

If you're looking for good guitar instrumental stuff look no further than Joe Satriani. He is still the king. Beyond him there's Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, Marty Friedman (yes, THAT Marty Friedman), Eric Johnson (once you hear Cliffs of Dover you're hooked for life), the list goes on.

Saw Satriani with Dream Theater in concert last year. What a powerhouse combo concert!

Yeah, Yngwie's lyrics/vocals are *whatever* for me... it's all about the guitar baby!

all of these old shrappnel recording artist
school malmstein. he was a shredder at one point but after loe lynn turner left it was all down hill and comebacks dont count. satchmo and eric are good but not true shredders the all mighty $$$$ influenced their guitar playing ability sadly.

I disagree; Satch is THE shredder. He invented it.

If you enjoy keyboards. Warmen has 2 incredible albums. It is basically keyboard shredding. incredible. It is the keyboardist for Children Of Bodom. Also, there is a slightly mellow keyboard shred by a person named Vitali Kuprij (spelling might be wrong). This is the keyboardist from Artension. They are more in the vein of Dream Theater so the the music is more based on technicality than speed. Both are incredible and technical. It's worth the look (the keys sound like guitar in a lot of cases)

I preface this with don't shoot me, but my ex-husband had everything guitar he could get his hands on (he even bought me jazz and classical guitar because those are my preferences). When he split, I just associated all of that with him and threw it out . . . except for Jackyl! [face_shocked] [face_laugh]

I've just been saying recently that I need to get some Queensryche.

On the Malmsteen note, I definitely think he should dump the singers and just go instrumental. Probably some agent telling him nobody wants to hear just him playing guitar (liars!)

    Steve Vai

Haven't heard alot of this stuff in ages. But I can sing all the songs from "Bear in the Big Blue House" verbatim. [face_plain]

Rob Zombie style would lead me to say Powerman 5000... seeing as how it's Rob's lil' Bro as the frontman.

If you like heavy crushing tones and words you can't understand and the occassional ballot Rammstein. Good ol' German metal.
Metallica: Black Album. Everyone owns this.
For 70's styled metal (not Jethro Tull in spite of Aqualung winning the first Heavy Metal award presented) Rainbow, Ronnie James Dio (Dio for short) KISS, Alice Cooper, that's all good stuff.
Megadeth: Cryptic Writings is really good, everything else is pretty good as well.
Meh, these are/was the more mainstream stuffs I know of. A more complete listing of HARD METAL is as above.

Also look into Shinedown. They're fairly new but there music is heavy and catchy. If you go to Shinedown.com you can sample some of there better stuff including Fly From the Inside.
