As you enter the famed club ZoSo, wonder fills your eyes. This is what you've dreamed of for years!

The sights and sounds fill your mind: sweet fragrances from the exquisite food, the glint of lacquer on the guitars at the stage...So much all at once. As you pass through the second set of doors, into the dance floor, you see tall, burly Samoan bouncers. Stoping others at a small doorway, you worry for a moment - will they let me in?

Your fears pass as one of them, seeing you, smiles.

"Ah! There you are. Mr. Kurovich is waiting for you." says the tall man, his hair tied back in dreadlocks.

You pass the red rope, and it is sealed behind you. Others moan in frustration, some cheer you on, but you are oblivious to them. Your attention is centred on the room ahead of you.

As you walk through the short hallway, a well dressed attendant smiles, offering to take your jacket. You absently hand it to him, making sure you have your wallet with you. The room is filled, with tables in small wall sconces. The centre contains three tables, and towards the back of the room, three steps lead up to the VIP table. You are quickly ushered up, and waiting for you is a large table, packed to the brim. One seat remains open, the one to the right of Robert Kurovich, the owner.

He smiles, his teeth white, his hair brown and long. He stands to shake your hand, and you are struck by how tall he is. He grips your hand firmly, but not too hard. A good handshake.

"So glad you could make it! Great to see you!" he says, a fairly deep voice, but you can see why he's so popular amongst the ladies.

He offers the seat for you, and sits down himself. Awestruck, the conversation is a blur for you, but you manage to make the table laugh at a few anecdotes of your own. Soon, the crowd is standing up. Surprised, you remember why it is you are here: it's your next gig. You see your band members at the table with you, and your blood is pumping.

You follow the other VIPs out to the main room. The stage has all your gear, and you walk up to it, with accompanying high-fives and pats on the back from fans and friends alike.

You get up to the stage, and see that Robert Kurovich is already there.

"How're you doing tonight? Good? Great? Bad? I hope not bad. But if that's the case, well then, maybe these guys can cheer you up, huh?" he says, a smile on his face.

The crowd cheers, loud and energy packed.

"Let's give a warm ZoSo welcome to-" Your name is drowned out in the ensuing cheer, and the lights come on, and you stare out at the crowd. It is huge.

And you're ready to rock their world.

    How the game Works

This is, strange as it sounds, a music-based role-playing game.

    Huh?

Yes, that is right. In this game, you can be any kind of musician you want...concert pianist, rockstar, jazz man, or even a rapper. Okay, so, maybe not a rapper, but if you want to, go for it. The way the game works is this: every character begins the game with a Popularity Level. For the beginning, unless otherwise stated by myself, that level is the same fr all characters.

With this level, you are free to try anything you can think of: concept album, series of singles, massive live tours...but the popularity level determines if it is successful. Of course, some things can boost this level. Playing at choice clubs, for example, gives you an advantage. It gets your name out there, and makes you known.

And along with the popularity level comes your skills.

    Talent:
    Technique:
    Flair:

These skills represent your abilities. The higher your talent, the easier it is for you to write music. The higher your technique, the better a player you are. And with high flair performances are easier.

    And speaking of performances...

To play a gig, you need a few things: gear, material, and a place to play. Each character begins with a budget to spend on gear, to do as they please with. Gear can add bonuses to your skills, an

    Equipment

In this RPG, equipment is accumulated, sold, traded, and given away. Players begin the game with a balance of $10,000 dollars. This money is used on your starting equipment - amplifiers, guitars, keyboards, microphones, you name it. Certain items cost more than others, and the reason is quite simple: certain items improve your skills more than others.

These certain items have bonuses which add to your skills as long as you use them. If you sell them, you lose those extra attributes.

Ladies and Gentlemen, so bad they're terrible, I give you: Dross!

    Name: Jason ?Jazzer? Arch
    Age: 20
    Gender: male
Appearance: Scruffy mousey brown hair, peircings (eyebrow, ear, bottom lip), brown eyes, weedy, skinny.
Personality: Arrogant, publicity monkey, angsty, drama queen
Bio: Jason was born in Chessington, England with a drive for fame and fortune. He started on this road when he founded the punk-rock band Dross with his friend Stuart Reynolds and, later, Stuart?s friend Mark Jones. Despite his drive to succeed Jazzer is pitifully bad at playing guitar and singing, which is what he does, though if you point this out he will shout at you. Hobbies include getting beaten up by J.M and falling into deep theatrical gloom at his lack of talent until someone soothes his ego.

    Equipment: Gibson SG, Shure microphone

    Talent: 1
    Technique: 1
    Flair: 7
    Popularity: 2

    Name: Mark ?J.M? Jones
    Age: 22
    Gender: Male
Appearance: Black hair (dyed), piercings (tongue, eyebrow, ears, other places), scary starey green eyes
Personality: Vindictive, bullying, arrogant, vaguely homicidal, aggressive
Bio: Mark Jones was born, probably, somewhere in the vicinity of Chessington, London, England, though his surname hints at a Welsh heritage. Somewhere along the line he learned to play bass passably well and got to know Stuart Reynolds, who then invited him to join the band he was forming with Jazzer. Since then he?s been the band?s bassist and bully. Hobbies include punching Jazzer and mooching off his bandmates.

    Equipment: Fender P-Bass

    Talent: 1
    Technique: 3
    Flair: 4
    Popularity: 2

    Name: Stuart Reynolds
    Age: 21
    Gender: Male
Appearance: Blonde/brown hair, brown eyes, eyeliner
    Personality: Peacemaker, shy, loyal
Bio: Stuart has known Jazzer since playgroup and has often bailed the younger musician out when in trouble. When Jazzer started playing an instrument it was he that suggested forming a band. Generally he sticks up for Jason and steps in when J.M is being too mean, but along with Dylan he takes a back seat during performances, where he plays rhythm guitar.

    Equipment: Gibson SG

    Talent: 3
    Technique: 3
    Flair: 2
    Popularity: 2

    Name: Dylan Harris
    Age: 25
    Gender: Male
Appearance: Brown spiky hair, medium build, sunglasses, eye colour unknown.
    Personality: Calm, quiet, reticent
Bio: Dylan met the band at their first gig when they tried to play without a drummer and Jazzer got brained with a beer bottle. Silently, he offered his services and they agreed. Easily the most talented member of Dross, he tolerates the other with Zen-like patience, though he has been known to step in and separate them when they are all fighting.

    Equipment: Pearl Basic Kit

    Talent: 5
    Technique: 2
    Flair: 2

They all share an Epiphone stack, though to be honest they?re so bad it would be a mercy not to hear them.

Hmm. I think a begining is in order.

    *Music: The Great Communicator*

The limousine pulls up smoothly next to crowded curb in front of Club ZoSo.

A bouncer, tall, well-dressed, and German, opens the door. Out step a number of VIPs.

As they walk to the door, more bouncers hold the line at the door. Another, tall and Samoan, checks names off a lit, saying them as he checks them off.

"Austin Proctor, Dross, Maya Yubari, Brian Stone, and Robert Baker..." he says quietly.

Girls throng the streets, pointing out the members of Dross. They giggle, scream, and throw themselves against the bouncers, desperate to meet the band.

People with larger scopes of interest see the others, most notably Stone. Others see Proctor, Yubari, and Baker, and gasp. ZoSo was having a rising star night!Immediately, it became a goal in life to get into the club.

As the musicians pass through the single sound-proofed door, they find themselves ushered to the VIP room - large, circular, with a few tables in the centre. Around the sides, sconces in the walls act as booths for those who want a bit more privacy. And opposite the door, a small set of stairs - no more than five steps - leads to the "elite" table. Many at the table are rich, famous, influential, and some are friends and acquaintances of Robert Kurovich, the owner of ZoSo.

The musicians are lead to their seats at the table, and Kurovich himself stands to shake hands with each one in turn. He smiles, says hello, and waits till they are all seated before continuing.

"Hello! So glad you could all make it, so glad!" he says, still standing. He is tall, with hair the just reches his neck. The lighting gives it a sheen not normally seen on brown hair, and he smiles. Wearing a black blazer, the arms are embroidered with red dragons, and his pants are similarly made.

    Kurovich smiles before continuing.

"So. We all know why you're here, we disscussed it in e-mail, by phone, spoken word, whatever. You're here to make connections, meet people, and most importantly, play music. This is like a little concert, really! Now, we don't have much time, but feel free to ask questions. Socializing can happen later, after the shows. Right now, who's ready to rule the stage?"

    Tag: All! We have begun!

Brian surveyed his surroundings as he sat with the rest of the VIP group, adorned in a black tanktop with blue jeans and black boots, defining his somewhat muscular stature. The owner of Club ZoSo seemed like a courteous man, but Brian didn't care. All he wanted to do was perform, for that is what got his blood boiling. It was what drove him.

And when the question arose, he was the first to volunteer. Without hesitation, he chimed in before any of the other performers had a mere chance. "I am," he said in a somewhat deep voice. "I'm ready to rock their world." He calmed himself as he realized his arrogance was taking over, and awaited a response from the club's owner.

    Dross
    ZoSo

Collectively, Dross were feeling a bit fazed. It was a miracle that they'd been invited in here in the first place, and most of them were secretly wondering when they'd get thrown out. Except J.M, who was lapping it up. The bassist had always known he'd be destined for greatness of one kind or another, and now he was finally performing at Club ZoSo. Well, it wasn't exactly Wembley Stadium but it was better than the Rat and Ferret.

Stuart, on the other hand, was overwhelmed by the famous names sitting just across the table from him. He leaned over and nudged Jazzer.

"Look, it's Brian Stone! My mum likes him!"

    Jazzer squinted at the musician.

"Yeah." he replied, slowly. "My mum likes him too. I got his album for her." there was a long pause as neurones connected. "It was rubbish."

Maya sat silently at the huge table infront of her. She was listning but became more interested in the room. It was a feast for the eyes, in one section a few red lights made it look like a harlot's bedroom, but Maya could gloss over that, and in another huge abstract paintings made what was once a plain wall into an impossing work of art.

It was then that Brian Stone announced he would play first. Maya smiled at him and waited for him to take to the stage, this would be a pleasent performance, she was sure. She'd read the reviews of many of the people here, however she was not so much looking forward to the undiscribable noise that was Dross.

It caught Robert's ear that one of the people, Brian Stone, was going to go first. Robert had listened to his work, and it had a good sound to it. Robert was looking forward to it. Most of the people here he had heard except for the band "Bleachwood Fly". They certainly fit the stereotype.

Austin leaned back in his chair and scanned the room. It was clear that not many in here had heard their music, but that was understandable, they were pretty big in the underground indie scene (which not many people here would be familiar with). The room was bigger than Austin's appartment. Not for long. This was the chance his band needed. The talent was their, but they just needed a bread, and this was it. He leaned over to Charlie.

    "Are you excited?"

"Nervous is more like it. Have you heard of any of these bands?"

Austin recognized the lady. "Yea, that's Maya Yubari, shes pretty good. I'm not a big fan of Brian Stone though."

"Well. Let's get to it, huh? There are some tables in the main room prepared for you. Or, if you prefer, feel free to get up and jump!" said Rob, smiling. He knew it sounded a little corny, but what could he do.

Going through the back door again, with everyone following him, he directed the others to the main floor, where dancers still crowded the large room.

He took Brian backstage, showing him his equipment.

"Man, just do whatever comes naturally. You're already popular, you're the first act of the night, the crowd would love you even if you ran out there naked and told 'em all to go to hell." he said quickly.

"I've got to go, when I introduce you, you're good to go. Amps have been set up already, so, no worries, huh?"

Rob walked out to the stage, picking up his Les Paul as he did so. He stopped, thought for a moment, and picked up his violin bow.

    ***

The dancers in ZoSo were surprised to hear the music shut off, replaced with a droning, electric sound. Not a bad sound, but strange. It changed, changing pitch ever so gently, before speeding up.

Certain dancers, especially certain women, began to sway to the music.

Then it went into a skittering, speedy, high note, holding it for a long time. Then it stopped again, and a loud, upbeat note followed the silence. People cheered, and another note came, this time with an accompanying jet of fire, illuminating Rob Kurovich.

People cheered, whooped, and yeleld, jumping up and down. Another note came, with more flames, a spotlight, and lasers. The entire effect was exhilerating.

Fast notes, one after another, quickly ascending, and it was a surprise for some to see that Kurovich was playing his Les Paul much like the great Jimmy Page did: with a violin bow.

Reaching a crescendo, he stopped with one final tap of the strings, pointing out to the crowd in a sort of salute.

    They cheered and applauded.

"So, hi, how is everyone? Good, okay. Well, um, there's this guy who really wants to meet you, he's quite excited, and-"

    The crowd drowned him out.

"Whoa! I can't hear myself, man! Anyways, let's all say hi to Brian Stone!"

Backstage, Brian checked to make sure everything was in working order, albeit Robert had assured him it all was. In this occupation, you could never be to sure about anyone. There was always someone who wanted you to fail, someone who wanted you to disappear from the face of music, and possibly, the world. Most of the time it was due to the lyrical style of the singer, and to Brian's knowledge, he had done nothing to offend anyone. But there were a lot of people that he had met in his time that were quite irascible, and often took things the wrong way. He smiled, as he admitted that he was one of those people. He turned back to his band.

"Everyone good, everyone ready?" he asked with a hint of eagerness in his voice.

The band nodded back to Brian with a "Yup," a "Let's go," and an "It's about time." Brian smiled, as those were the responses he was looking for from the rest of his band consisting of two women and a man, taller than Brian.

Brian listened to the ending of Robert's amazing opening, and heard his name called out. With one last nod to his band, he approached the stage, his guitar strapped around his neck and dangling over his stomach with his hands held up high, smiling. He was home. This was where he belonged.

He was then slightly disappointed by the song he had prepared. With the energy this crowd had, he doubted that they wanted the ballad that he was scheduled to play.

"Thank you!" he said as the crowd silenced down a bit, but there was still a myriad of soundwaves reverberating throughout the room. "How's everyone doin' tonight!?" The crowd erupted in cheers, ready for the song to begin. Brian nodded and turned back to his band, hollering out the song name to them. "Corruption!" he said, his hand over the microphone so the fans woulnd't hear. He had to repeat himself twice in order for his band to understand, and at last they all nodded. He smiled and turned back to the microphone as the crowd's roars came to a halt, and complete silence filled the area.

A slow beat emitted from the speakers, marked by a couple guitars and soft drums. It played for several seconds until Brian put his mouth up to the microphone as he continued playing his guitar, and sang.

"I was just eighteen when my sight met her gaze,
As soon as I saw her I was shrouded in haze.
She lured me into her trap of seduction,
But beneath the hazel I could see the corruption.
Word could not express my fascination,
I was caught and unleashed by imagination.
She looked like a Queen on her Heavenly throne,
I walked up to her and said "My name?s Brian Stone."
We started talking as minutes became hours,
I walked her to her door and gave her a bouquet of flowers.
She said goodbye and she kissed me right there,
She dropped the flowers and didn?t seem to care.
She wrapped her hands around my neck as her eyes closed,
I didn?t know what to do so I stood there and froze.
She invited me in and without a second guess,
I accepted and entered a giant mess.
She dragged me into her enormous web of lies,
Inside the room I could hear faint children?s cries.
She shoved me down onto the leather couch,
Then she bent low into a mysterious crouch.
Out of her pocket came a silver knife,
I started thinking of my son and my wife.
Now I sit here and I?m no longer livin?,
Telling you what drove me to Heaven."

The beat came to a slow halt as the crowd erupted in applause.

Sitting in his chair, Rob was a little surpised at the style of song. This surprise swiftly became wonder, as Brian's song was, indeed, very well written. At the end of the song, the crowd erupted in applause and cheers, and Rob stood, clapping hard.

He walked up to the stage again, shaking hands with Brian.

"Great song, really, wow." Rob could only smile, and went up to the mic. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Brian Stone!"

Brian smiled from ear-to-ear, joy engulfing his heart as the crowd's cheers boomed throughout the room like a rushing freight train inside a darkened tunnel. He noticed his band was gleeful as well, as they always enjoyed it when crowds liked their songs. Brian possessed more pride than the others, particularly because he wrote the song himself.

Robert walked up to the stage and shook Brian's hand. "Great song, really, wow," the club's owner said, and walked up to the microphone. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Brian Stone!"

Brian smiled, flashing his teeth at the crowd and lifting his arms into the air in a repeated motion, their cheers becoming even more amplified. The light glared off of Brian's bald head, and a veneer of black hair inhabited his jaws and chin, causing him to look even more like a musician than he already did. The night was still young.

    "Youre on in one Minute!"

The call came from the stage hand. Austin was excited. Their equipment was up on the stage. He wondered weather they would be introduced, or if they would have to do it for themselves. He gathered his band around.

"Alright guys, this is it. We got one shot at this. One song. Jesus Christ is a Prime Number." Austin saw the shcok on their faces. The song had been written solely by Austin, one week ago. But it was powerful, and that is what they needed. "Follow my lead."

"I see a lot of new faces here! Tonight's a night for new things, as you may have seen. And we're going to continue that feel for the next song, please welcome Bleachwood Fly!!" cried out Rob, motioning them on-stage.

As he hopped down the stage, he remembered something. Leaning back over the stage, he said, "Just go for it, man! Good luck!"

Austin ran out to the stage and picked up his Martin. This was the biggest crowd he had ever preformed for. He looked around the stage, and saw that his band was ready. He whispered to them "Alright guys, lets do this."

He turned to his mic, and made sure it was on.

"Hello! Are you guys ready to rock out?"

And with that, he started in on his guitar. The soft, emotion filled music filled the club. Now came the drums, and then the electric and finally the piano and the bass. All playing together perfectly in the key of Aminor. Austin came in with his deep, soft, raspy voice. (Almost like David Bazan but higher, pedro the Lion)

    August, one morning it?s raining
A letter, has come in the mail

    Madam, we?re sorry but your
    Son Jimmy has died
    He died
    Protecting his country
He died, so we can be free

The tear, falls down the cheek
The rain, falls from the sky
The sheer hurt of the moment
    The pain, you can?t describe

    Freedom, it is not free
Your son, just paid the price
Thank you, for what you?ve given
    Thank you for your sacrifice

    Now mom, sits all alone
In her, left hand is a gun
There is no reason to live
So now, like mother like son

    Your country thanks you immensely
Because of your son, were free

The trigger, caressed by her finger
    Ready, to end her life
Her son, dead for a cause that
    Nobody understands
Men in their suits with there papers
Her son?s blood is on THEIR handsssss!

    Run now, while you can
They are coming for you next
    Fight now, make a stand
Your freedom, it is not free
    Your freedom, it is??not??free??.

Austin hit all the notes great. Sometimes he was higher than most people though possible when they looked at him, sometimes his low, melodious voice filled the crowd with emotion. It all fit together perfectly, in the only way that made sense to his ear...

"Boo! Rubbish! Get off the fragging stage!"

J.M had attacked the bar with his usual gusto and was feeling in the mood for a heckle or two. Seeing as the music was neither highly aggressive or ear-bleedingly loud, it was obviously not his kind of thing and the bassist was giving it all he had, much to Stuart's horror. The guitarist was pleading weakly for his friend to sit down and please be quiet when, much to his suprise, Dylan stood up.

"We next?" Jazzer asked blearily. Dylan nodded.

"About time!" J.M snarled. "Give them some real music!"
