The facility where I train is awesome in almost every way *except* that the ****ing radio is left on all the time playing a bunch of whiny, warbling **** that makes me want to vomit in its face.

My general taste in music is pretty cerebral and I have little awareness of anything from the last hundred years or so (Sibelius and Zappa aside). What I'm after here is aggressive noise to get testosterone flowing rather than anything I would listen to outside of my favourite iron dungeon. If it's more imaginative than the standard 3 chords; 4/4 time, great, but making me want to pick up heavy **** is the goal here.

I've just ordered a clip-on mp3 player and need to fill it with appropriate stuff. Your help towards this end is appreciated.

I'm thinking metal is the most likely genre. Hip hop might work, but most of it seems absurdly adolescent (all about shooting folk and/or enjoying one's stable of b*****s).

    Embedded media encouraged.

Awesome, but a bit hyperactive. Might work for Crossfit but I like being injury-free.

This is not a quest for good music, it's a quest for noise that helps create an optimal endocrine environment for lifting weights :)

a old friend of mine used to lift to this album, said it did the trick:

maybe a bit brutal for your tastes, though.

This entire mixtape. It always gets a few extra reps out of me. Great for running as well, especially in a city.

Nope, that works. It's all about hormonal response, taste is irrelevant.

I recently bought the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack purely to do conan's wheel to conan's wheel music. Doesn't quite work as the aim is to move as quickly as possible without blacking out, but it's still ****ing cool. As a bonus it also annoys the younger guys with their hippety hops.

Pete old boy, try some Between the Buried and Me. Specifically their mis-spelled album "Colors"
