    Hi Guys,
Just letting you know, my computer fried a circuit or something during the storm tonight. So if you need to contact me it has to be by phone. You might remember I was working on an essay...well I don't know what's going to happen now, but there will be no essay handed in on time, that's for sure!

Bad news indeed! If anyone does need to contact Deb who isn't in phone distance, or any other messages. I will be in pretty close contact with her for the weekend so any messages if you'd like can be passed through me.

even if I did have to call Deb, I don't have her phone number. That probably would have been useful when I was trying to find her house, but I didn't think the GTA number would be useful then.

Update: It appears to be the switching power supply. I'll have to drag it to a store or something but I don't have time now and I'm working all weekend. :( :( :(
Janet,I'll PM you my phone number.

why take it to a store when you can get a friend to look at your computer for free???? if you need a new power supply, i know where to find either cheap ones or relatively inexpensive good ones. I looked around a bit when I had to get a new one a few weeks ago.

My friend told me to order the part from Future Shop and get it delivered since I can't easily get to a store. I need an ATX 250 or ATX 300. If you can think of an easier way to get the part that isn't expensive and doesn't involve extensive travelling I'd love to hear it :) My friend says he will put in the power supply for me once I get it.

The bright side is I got an extension on my essay, so I have a little time to work with.

Argh, I'm exhausted, I need to sleep now :(

ATX power supplies are very easy to find. That's the standard. You can pick them up at any computer store. I do know one place that has them for $30. They are also very easy to install... I think it took me 5 minutes to replace mine.

...she forgot to mention that she fixed it in about 5 minutes!!!

*Yes! We have power! Shields up!*

    (((((((((((()))))))))))))))
    THANK YOU, JANET!

For those who are technically savvy (not me), a couple of capacitors had blown clean off the boards. We're all good now though!

anyone else noticing a rash of blown power supplies? Peter knows three people (including himself) that have had power supplies blow in the last few months.

Well I want to buy a new one, but not because I have to... pats UPS protecting the computer from the ugly voltage spikes and dips.

I think mine had a dust problem, juging from the amount of dust it spit out when it blew.

Same thing happened to me. Power supply went taking the motherboard and hard drive with it.

Took out a few years worth of illustrations and the bulk of my elusivefish website that I was designing. Worst loss -aside from my tax records- however was my three year archive of email, chronicalling the formation of the Toronto Line.

Ouch sorry to hear that Tragic.

I was lucky mostly :) My HD was intact, but I've had issues with things disappearing and losing stuff :(

My computer knows better then to crap out on me. I tend to have a short fuse with machines that don't function. The last key board I had wouldn't type A's. Now its in a million and a half peices.

If my comp crashes...it may have to meet my other friend...Mr. Sledgehammer.
