Well, first of all - HAVE FUN DOING IT.

Second of all ... your request is way too general.
What kind of tips are you looking for?

The first thing you need to do is explore the TFN.FanFilms website:
    * Watch many of the FanFilms
    * Read the Filmmaking Tutorials
    * Go to FanFilmFX.com and check out THEIR tutorials
    * Read THIS THREAD thoroughly.

After you have done all of this, THEN come back and ask some more specific questions.
We'll be glad to help you, if we can. :D

    heres my idea/suggestions

-Make sure you have a camera

    -go outside

    -swing a stick around

    -Bring It into the computer

    -Rotoscope it

thats how i started off... anyway
its good practice and lets you get to know your ability. Then you can work on a script and everything. Not everyone will see it this way, but I say get your feet wet on like a 10 second lightsaber clip or something easy before you try making an epic and hyping it like its the next knightquest.

    have fun :D

    -Tom

edit: (be the first to use 'THE FORMULA' to recruit your friends :p)

    Here's a piece of advice .......
STAY AWAY from the "Episode 1 1/2" or "Episode 1.5" or whatever.

Try to come up with a more original title.
(and don't use "of the" in the title, either) ;)

    my suggestion:

    get a camera

    go outside

    do NOT get a stick

    do NOT swing a stick

    do NOT rotoscope a stick...

i'd like to see more non-lightsaber based fanfilms... i mean... after seeing jango fett doing some crazy gunplay, i want to see some bounty hunter action!

er- sorry pixeleto, but thats just what i think is a good way of starting off if u dont have much fanfilm experience. I think its the easiest thing to do....

im not suggesting to make a whole film based on a lightsaber fight, theres way too many, i agree... however I think a short lightsaber clip is the best way to get your feet wet. For the following reasons

    - I got the impression that this was the VERY FIRST experience of the sort for the person who began this topic, and i think the easiest way to start editing things in on the computer, is rotoscoping lightsabers.

    - You can test lighting in the short clip and see how it looks on film and then you can experiment with different lighting until you think you have the best for your personal liking

-see how a certain costume looks on film\

-Shoot from two different angles and you can try mixing them in differnet ways to get the best clip and test your cinematography

-If your REALLY new, practicing bringing things into the computer

    -Practice compressing

-See what you can do with sound editing, i think the little lightsaber wave is a great place to start

    - And in the end its gonna look cool, you can be proud, and just that glowing lightsaber can inspire a lot more enthusiasm to get on with bigger better projects.

I just feel that this is a best way to start, It's how I started and how (atleast i think) other people started. :)

A Marsial? Isn't that like a small mammal that dwells in trees? So the Marsial Arts would be like Rodent Paintings and such?

Oh and another thing, the whole first gun fights as well, dude all this is too much like all of my ideas. I am sorry to say all this but you have to believe me.
