I was born a lot later than most of you folks, but I guess the one show that I remember the most as a kid was Pokemon.

But I think as I got older...

I concur with my learned friend. They were called VT tapes. Cameramen used to splice together funny outtakes, and general saucy misbehaviour. Then they'd put them on vhs tapes and give them to cast and crew as xmas treats.

    Occasionally they'd get leaked.

Let me add in looking for a photo, I am not amused at all the comparisons to Mike Pence. Yeah he may kinda look like an older version of him, but Race was never an ignorant racist homophobe.

Plus Young Robin Hood. Both dubbed in Norwegian, of course. I do not condone these strange voices. I also looked up to Johnny Quest in that his name was Johnny, and he went on quests.

    Cartoon wise
I think I wanted to be Leonardo or He-man or Lion-O when I was a little kid. Come to think of it, maybe I just wanted a sword.

I'd put Optimus Prime on the list as well as Keith from Voltron.

Heathcliff was cool, had a girl, and always got away with stuff so maybe he was my hero. I was really into Garfield and reading his comics as a kid, but I wouldn't classify him as a hero; I'm just a really big fan of him. I also love lasagna and hate Mondays.

Honorable mention: Captain N the Game Master.

    Live action
I definitely wanted to be Zack Morris.

I hated Heathcliff precisely because he always got away with things. I also hated the Dennis the Menace cartoon that aired on Fox Kids for that reason. I sympathised with Mr. Wilson, Dennis' unfortunate next-door neighbour. I fantasized about Mr. Wilson bashing Dennis' precious young skull in with his shovel and burying him in his backyard, and when Dennis' parents asked if he'd seen him, he'd wilyly say "why, I haven't the faintest idea, I do hope you'll find him. O:) ", and then he'd plant some lovely geraniums and violets over his corpse. :) But my younger brother liked watching it...

Christopher Reeve as Superman is definitely my favorite childhood hero because not only was he heroic but very charismatic, down to earth and simply a fully realized character that audience could identify with. Dick Donner's Superman: The Movie is my all time favorite super hero film and is pretty much been the template of the MCU; which is focus on the hero and high light his/her attributes, personality and humanistic qualities rather than focusing on the godlike qualities and the public response thereto.

Yeah, Luke Skywalker with the Force as a metaphor or choice between good and evil. Very influential on a young child.

    I'll include this guy...

Bruce Lee is both an Asian and American icon, and lived awhile in San Francisco which really brings him home for me as I walk the same streets he has. Of course his superior demonstration of martial arts opened the world to the Kung Fu craze as well as provided a looked into the Chinese culture. He was an inspiration and caused fans to mimic his moves and sound effects. I mean, Bruce Lee's vocal expressions are the human equivalent to the lightsaber, in that when you mimic him you also have to make the same sounds he did. I have like 3 Bruce Lee posters on my wall.

    And this guy...

Optimus Prime is heroic, courageous and wise.
