It has been brought to my attention that a MOD here on Theforce.net boards was selling their handle and password on Ebay earlier today. When contacted via MSN Messenger, a link was sent to me showing the claim of a MOD selling his handle and password on it. While nothing shows up on the link now, earlier today it did.

The MOD's handle was not stated but did say that the person was a above-average popular user here at these boards. I wanted to bring this up to the attention of the people here (for we may have a false MOD running among us here) and hope an exchange hasn't taken place. The link to the auction was here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=306&item=3064582647&rd=1 just in case anyone wanted to know. It doesn't work.

Well, that's about it. I just wanted to bring it up to the attention of the people here at these boards.

Stay safe and remember......don't trust anyone.

According to that link, the auction has been removed.

I doubt it was authentic in the first place.

Why would anyone want to pay to be a mod?

Power? Mass bannings? Just to say you're a MOD? There's many reasons but who would be stupid enough to try and sell a name and who would be even dumber to pay a LOT of money to be one? You can only do so much.

Revenge perhaps? Buy a manager's account and then he can delete the boards one by one. I'm sure they have backups as one would be damn stupid not to have backup files for something so large.

er...why is my name in the title? [face_worried]

or am I being ego-centric and it has nothing to do with me? :p

That certainly is weird. It's probably not authentic, like KW says.

Ah, the things you'll see on eBay. :p

BTW, what's MYST stand for?

EDIT: lol, myst, that's what I thought when I read the title too.

That used to be true, but it's not anymore. Only admins can delete a board now.

That was a change made a couple months ago.

about the same time I was promoted to manager - co-incidence ?

What was the screen name of the person selling the item on ebay, and were they an established member (ie more than 10 feedbacks), or a new account ?

How did you come across the auction ?

Above-average? Popular? Then it obviously couldn't have been a MOD, right. [face_mischief]

Yes, I would guess it wouldn't be a MOD, I'd guess it was some other user here on the boards. They probably thought they could get some JC kids to go crazy when a MOD (which most normal users here think it would be cool to be) might be selling their handle. I find it hard to believe that a mod would really do any of this... whoever it was running the auction probably didn't even really know the password for the handle in question.

Come on, are suggesting that we have any users who would hack accounts they didn't originally register or are bitter at the administration? Anyone who follows Comms knows that can't possibly be true.

This begs the question...which mod could pull the most dough on eBay? How much would you pay to be Katya_Jade? Raven? DarthSapient?

I say we turn the JC into a reality show. Every January users vote mods off the boards. Then, those with the most votes have their username and modship auctioned off on Ebay! Imagine how much money TFN would rake in!

Jeff has a point there and since he owns the boards he could just get another account activated. And he doesn't care too much about the boards, so really, it'd be like a win-win situation for him.

I think Malkie could get some bucks.
