Do you or would you like to write detective, mystery and/or crime fiction set in the Galaxy Far, Far Away? Can you write short stories? Can you write in such a way that the readers can guess 'whodunnit', if they're clever enough to spot the clues?

If yes, then you're welcome to come and join me in a little 'Guesswhodunnit' thread. It's on the Saga board here but any time period is welcome, as are both original characters and canon characters. The concept is simple- write a very short mystery/detective/crime story, include all the clues, and stop at the point where the readers should be able to guess the solution. The solution doesn't have to be a 'who', either- it could be a how, a what, etc. etc.

Write up the solution as a concluding paragraph or two and PM or email it to me, and I'll post it to my web site and send you a link for the end of your story, so readers can click on it when they think they've worked out the answer. Alternatively, post the answer to your own site so you can link it. Once you've got the link, post the story to the thread with the link to the solution at the end.

The only requirements for writing are length, setting, and included information:

    * Your story (or stories) should preferably fit into a single post, or at most into two posts, not including the solution

    * Your story (or stories) must be recognisably set in the GFFA. You should not include anything that wouldn't believably fit into the GFFA as presented in the films- no time travel, for example, or supernatural activity beyond that already included (e.g. Force 'ghosts' are allowed, animated undead skeletons are not). The appearance of such things is fine, as long as there is a 'real' explanation.

    * Your story must include enough information for readers to deduce the solution to the mystery without needing additional specialist information. You may assume that all readers are familiar with the films, but not with the books, comics, computer games and so forth. If the reader would have to know something not obvious or implied in the films to solve the puzzle, then you must state or (preferebly) infer the fact within the story. For example, you can assume that readers will know what a blaster is and that blasters can have a stun setting, but may not assume that readers will know what a Holocron or an ysalamiri is.

Anyone is welcome to post as long as they keep within the requirements. Spell-checked and beta-read stories would be nice, but I know that's not always possible. Style is up to you as long as it qualifies as a mystery, crime or detective story- from humour to horror via drawing-room denouement, anything is welcome (although do please keep the board rating in mind). If you don't think you can write, then come along anyway, read and deduce away!

Errrgh...how I'd love to take a stab at this if only I wasn't such a die-hard Beyond the Saga writer... :p

You can write stories in ANY time period! The first story was Saga, so that's where it's posted, but the others don't have to stay there. :)

This sounds fun. I may or may not do it, depending on the bunnies. ;)

In this case, rules re: "which board?" are certainly relaxed, because it sounds like a wonderful crossover idea. So if the bunny bites, Sebulba...

I am trying very hard to think of something clever to contribute.

Well, just about all my fanfic is crime-themed, but it's pretty dang long. Is there a deadline or anything? It might take me a while to figure out how to cram an entire criminal investigation into a short story...

I know, I'm not good at short either. Think "scene of the crime," maybe... things not being what they seem...

Thanks for the additional reassurance on when stories can be set, Renata. No deadlines, Sebulba, it'll be an ongoing thread. So there's no rush, if anyone's interested take the time you need and post when you're ready. :)

Great idea -- very unusual, but sounds like a great deal of fun!

I think I might have a plot or two -- now I just have to decide which characters to use.

Ooh, goody, people with ideas. :)

I've got three more little plots that I'll add gradually. The first of them should be ready for the weekend.

Okay, let me amend my previous statement. Fun, no this is HARD!

Although, this is an evil little challenge that won't let me not think about it. :D

I just want to say that I'm still wracking my brain for a good (short!) mystery that I can do for this one.

I'm working on one at the moment, have original characters ready, now I just need a detailed story line... Something organised enough to keep a bit of suspense, it's the harder part I think. I don't know how long it might be, I'll try to make it short though.

I'm really excited! I managed to write my very first "whodunnit" and make it conform to the parameters of the Summer Fanfic Writing Challenge as well! Woo-hoo!

Someone take a lightsaber to Darth Real Life for me? I barey have time to breath. Although I have to confess to finding the time for a lightsaber battle with my son with my shiny new Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker lightsabers, which are very, very cool according to my son (and he doesn't impress that easily, unless it involves Pokemon).

Applause to everyone who's been contributing. Thank you. I hate to have dropped off the face of Board existance so soon after starting up the thread. If things keep up I'll start looking for a new job, because my current one is eating me alive. :p
