Title: Nat's Saga Drabbles
    Author: NYCitygurl
    Characters: Any and every
    Timeframe: all over Saga
Notes: Part of the Second Ultimate Drabble Challenge. Now I've got two going at once :p

    Smooth

Anakin gazed at the woman sitting on the couch across from him. She was even more beautiful than he remembered. Her long, rich hair was tied up in an elaborate knot, and her brown eyes seemed to gaze into his soul. Her skin, he knew, was smooth ? the first smooth thing he had ever felt. He found himself wishing that he could touch her, run his finger along her cheek, just to feel it.

She was staring at him now, and he stared back. She was his oasis in the desert, and he knew he cared about this Nubian senator.

    Rough

The sand was rough under his feet. It sifted between is toes as he padded barefoot across it, trying to keep his balance. The sand got everywhere ? in his clothes, in his hair, in everything he owned. He hated its rough texture.

Someday, Anakin vowed, I?ll leave this place. I?ll free Mom and me and then we?ll travel across the stars. We won?t be stuck as slaves in this hot, horrible place. I?ll be a Jedi and protect her forever. We?ll be safe and happy and free together. And whatever planet we end up on, there won?t be any sand.

    Dry

His mouth was dry, and he felt himself craving water. The desert sand blasted in his face as he pushed the landspeeder harder, harder, trying to find his mother.

His tongue was swollen, and he was incredibly thirsty, but he didn?t have time to stop. Every second counted; if he didn?t reach her on time, his horrible vision would come true. He imagined how she must feel, trapped in a Tusken Raider camp, beaten and deprived of food. He kept the image of her in his head, and gradually he was able to put the thirst out of his head.

    Wrinkled

Palpatine?s face was wrinkled, he noticed. It had always seemed wrinkled to him, but as the years passed he seemed to row older, more careworn. The Chancellor had nevertheless taken time out of his busy schedule to see Anakin whenever he arrived for a visit. The young Jedi was delighted that this important man paid him so much attention and took him seriously.

    ?Good evening, Chancellor Palpatine.?

    ?Hello, young Skywalker.?

The Chancellor smiled at the young Jedi, and Anakin felt proud. He gazed at his mentor?s tired, careworn face, and he idly wondered exactly how old the former senator was.

    Weathered

His mother?s skin was rough and wrinkled, but Anakin didn?t care. Her worn, weathered face to him meant light and love and every happy thing in his world. It was the first thing he saw every morning and the last thing he saw before he closed his eyes at night. She raised him, took care of him. She made sure that he had food to eat; she cleaned his cuts. She kissed him goodbye every time he left and tucked him into bed every night. To him, the sight of her tired face was the most beautiful in the galaxy.

Wonderfully done, NYCitygurl. "Wrinkled" was kind of haunting because of what we know about the chancellor, and I could only think, "watch out, Ani, that wrinkled man is not the kind man you think he is!"

"Rough" and "Weathered" were my favorites.

    Jedi

Anakin stood facing the Council, trying not to let his anger show. ?I?m needed on the front lines,? he said, his teeth clenched.

?You need to do as we say,? Mace Windu admonished. ?It is vitally important that the Supreme Chancellor have a sufficient escort to Corellia.?

?But ?? Anakin liked the Chancellor, but he needed to be in the fight. He was the best; why would they take him away from where he was needed the most? There were other Jedi available to escort Palpatine.

?No ?buts,? Jedi Skywalker,? Master Windu cut him off. ?You?ll go where you?re told.?

    Sith

Vader cocked his helmeted head as he gazed at the trembling old man sprawled on the ground in front of him. It hadn?t taken long for him to disarm the ancient Jedi. The man had tried to hide from the Empire, and when he had been found, he had made a sad attempt to fight for his life. He must know that it was almost over.

Vader raise his gloved hand and used the Force to levitate the cringing man into the air. He twisted the Jedi?s neck. The man fell limp, and Vader let him drop to the ground.

    Soldier

Anakin twirled around, his robe flying, as he swung his lightsaber down, decapitating the driod in front of him. Without giving it a second thought, he deflected a blaster bolt and moved on.

At the edge of his vision, he saw Obi-Wan?s lightsaber cut through several limbs, disarming his opponents. Before long, the two Jedi stood together, lightsabers humming, the field around them littered with dead and mangled droids.

    ?That went well,? Anakin commented.

Obi-Wan thumbed off his lightsaber. ?Hopefully our comrades as doing as well. Let?s go make sure that Grevious hasn?t landed.?

    Anakin grinned. ?Aye aye, General.?

    Civilian

Anakin came up behind Padme and turned the Holonet off. ?You shouldn?t be watching that, not in your condition,? he gently admonished. These days, there was nothing but news of the war. Padme had been working tirelessly since the conflict broke out to stop it. She needed a break. Her day off was not the time for this ? especially, Anakin mused, since she was pregnant. He slid his arms around her waist, delighting in the feel of the slight bump of her stomach.

?I love you,? he whispered to her. These brief moments they had together were precious to him.

    Politician

Anakin was inwardly fuming, but he tried to keep his temper. He ignored the Masters on the Council, and concentrated on the report that a Jedi was giving. He knew that they were watching him, though. They hadn?t wanted him on the Council in the first place.

He had been ecstatic when Palpatine had assigned him to the Council; he had wanted to be on it. He hated that the Masters didn?t trust him enough to allow him the rank of master. It wasn?t fair! He worked hard and was a good Jedi. He deserved the position and title both.

I really like these, Nat! :D

"Politician" was really good, especially with the "It's not fair" line. And "Civilian" was really sweet. :) Awww, A/P mush! [face_love] :D "Soldier" was hilarious with "Aye, aye General" ( [face_laugh] ) and "Sith" was just plain creepy. "Jedi" -- pure Anakin Skywalker.

    =D=

    Love them all! :D

    Silolo: Yeah :(

    Mother

Shmi looked at her sleeping son and smiled sadly. She lightly brushed her fingers across his cheek. He smiled and sighed in his sleep, then rolled over without waking up.

He was beautiful, this boy of hers. He deserved better than the life of a slave, stuck forever on a desert planet with no hope of escape. She knew that he had the potential to be anything he wanted to be; she just wished there was a way to give him the chance to reach his potential.

?I love you,? she whispered, before leaving the room and shutting the door.

    Father

Anakin put a hand on Padme?s belly and smiled happily. It was rounding slightly, and he delighted in it each day. He was going to be a father.

?It?s a girl,? he said, very sure of himself.

Padme shook her head. ?No, it?s a boy,? she argued. ?It has to be; he?s kicking too much. This is your son, no question.?

?You?re pretty feisty yourself,? he said, giving her a hot look that made her blush. ?Could be a daughter that is, no question, yours.?

Padme shook her head. ?I don?t think so. A boy, definitely.?

    ?No question??

    ?Shut up.?

    Sister

Padme gave her sister a big hug. ?I?m so happy for you, Sola!?

Her sister had had one daughter several years ago, and she and her husband had been having trouble conceiving again. ?This is wonderful!?

?Yes, it is,? Sola said with a quiet happiness. ?I really want this baby.?

?I know.? Padme put a hand on her sister?s stomach. ?This is going to be a beautiful baby, full of your quiet strength. Everything will go well, I just know it.?

?I hope so,? Sola replied reverently. She rested her head on Padme?s shoulder. ?And I?ll have you to help.?

    Brother

Obi-Wan and Anakin rested against the bulkhead, panting. It had been a narrow escape; the battle droids had almost overwhelmed them.

Anakin turned his head to face Obi-Wan. ?Thank you for saving me,? he said in a rare moment of humbleness.

?It was very stupid of you to go rushing into the trap without making sure you could get out,? Obi-Wan agreed. He clapped his padawan?s shoulder. ?And you?re welcome,? he said softly. ?You?re my brother, Anakin? I?ll always be there, guarding your back.?

?And I?ll always be with you,? Anakin replied, equally as emotionally. ?You?re my brother, too, Obi-Wan.?

    Friend

    ?Are we friends??

Qui-Gon stopped in his tracks. ?What?? he asked, looking back over his shoulder at his padawan.

?Are we friends?? Obi-Wan repeated. He knew that it was a strange time to be asking, but they were heading into a hostile planet completely controlled by the Trade Federation, and he wanted to know.

Qui-Gon considered for a moment. He and Obi-Wan had been together for a lot of years. Qui-Gon had a lot of friends, but he had never felt as close to any of them as he felt to Obi-Wan.

?Yes,? he said. ?You?re my best friend, Obi-Wan.?

I don?t know how I managed to miss the early responses:

Dry ? I loved how you added to this little scene ? Anakin speeding off to find his mother. The sense of urgency was well portrayed.

Jedi ? Poor Anakin, being pushed around by the Jedi Council yet again. :p

Sith ? Oh, yeah baby! That?s the badass Vader we all loved to hate!

Mother ? very, very sweet. :)

Brother ? excellent clip showing the camaraderie of the two, and making the eventual turn of Anakin?s all the more tragic

    Shuttle

Leia cocked her head as she gazed at the Imperial shuttle that the Rebels had stolen. In just moments she would be climbing the boarding ramp into it to head off on a highly dangerous mission. She steeled her resolve; she had been on dangerous missions before and lived to tell of it, which was more than others could say.

Besides, she had Luke, Han, and Chewbacca with her. They would keep her safe; they always had before. They might be a strange assortment of characters ? a Jedi, a former smuggler, and a Wookie ? but they were a good team.

    Fighter

Luke twisted the yoke so that his X-Wing flipped over on its side, avoiding the fire coming from Darth Vader?s TIE-fighter. His hands were sweating, and he was glad that he had the gloves to help him keep his grip.

The man who had killed his mentor was gaining on him, so Luke pushed the yoke forward, trying to make his tiny fighter go faster. Most of the pilots who had set out on the mission to destroy the Death Star were dead. The only survivor besides Luke had gotten hit and pulled out. Luke was the only one left.

    Freighter

The big freighter slugged along, slow to descend. The pilot concentrated hard. Yavin IV was hard to land on; the big trees made it difficult to find the hidden base, even with the coordinates. The Rebels desperately needed the supplied on the ship, and the ship itself. He couldn?t afford to crash.

He took a deep breath and let it out slowly, forcing himself to try to relax. He had made this run before, but it always made him nervous. He had much preferred the old base on Dantooine, but they had been forced to abandon it several months ago.

    Capital Ship

The wedge-shaped Super Star Destroyer was an impressive sight, especially since it was the Executer ? the most famous and deadly Start Destroyer in the galaxy.

    It belonged to Darth Vader.

Vader was standing at the bridge, staring out at the stars through the viewport. He had always dreamed of traveling the stars when he was younger. He had wanted to see them all, every last one.

What naïveté. No person could see them all. But he had gotten, he mused, a better chance to try than anyone else.

But then, he had also wanted to be a Jedi, once.

    Space Station

Tarkin crossed his hands behind his back. He held himself very stiffly, not betraying any emotions.

This new instrument of death was being completed before his very eyes. Within just a few months it would be operational, with him in charge.

The space station was bigger than anything that had ever been built before. If worked, it would make the Empire the uncontested power in the galaxy.

They had had a hard time coming up with a name for the weapon, but when they finally did, Tarkin decided that it was very suitable.

They called it the Death Star.
