This must be a great hire because Stephien A. Smith and Skip Bayless are in AGREEMENT that this is a terrible hire by the Lakers. :p

I like the hire for the Lakers. Much better than I'd like bringing Phil Jackson back.

Dwight Howard as a defensive game changer in this high octane offense? Just crazy enough to work.

i think this is the huge mistake. i look forward to watching the lakers play well in the regular season, only to lose in the second round of the playoffs.

It took 3 overtimes in Toronto, but the Jazz prevailed over the Raptors 140-133. I like it when random games such as this become notable.

As for the D'Antoni hire, I'm much more optimistic about him than I was when the Lakers hired Mike Brown last year. There are drawbacks (DUH), but his relationships with Nash, Kobe & Howard help a lot to keep my optimism up. Speaking of Howard: http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/...xcited-los-angeles-lakers-hiring-mike-dantoni

The relevant (non basketball part) of that article:

Howard, who found out about the news through a BBM message on his BlackBerry phone

So refreshing to see that the BlackBerry still has its dedicated users. The few, the proud...

    The outdated? :p

I think that the D'Antoni hire could work out reasonably well for the Lakers. Better than the Brown hire, at least.

Apparently Randolph and Perkins had an altercation near the locker room and the police have been called in to investigate.

    Now that's a rivalry. :p

How did it turn out for Morris last night (in his first ever NBA start)? 1 point (obviously a free throw), went 0-5 from the field. Good grief! For some ridiculous reason, during training camp the Lakers release Andrew Goudelock, a guard who (though would be a 2nd year player himself) is a lot more competent out on the floor/show many signs of offensive competence during the 2011-2012 campaign... I'm really pissed that he's no longer on the team. As for the rest of last night's game, despite the result (84-82 in favor of San Antonio), it was a close, entertaining grind it out game, with each team doing well enough defensively & having their offensive issues (ie: the Lakers last inbound play, their terrible bench, and MWP's shot selection. Strange, though, that it was the Spurs only trip to Staples to play the Lakers this season.

Seven in a row for the Grizzlies. The last three have been great wins for us with victories over the Heat, Thunder and previously undefeated Knicks. Watch, we'll probably get bit by the Bobcats tomorrow. :p

Damian Lillard, rookie of the year. Count on it! Best point guard the league has seen since Rose/Westbrook/Paul.

It certainly appears to be a two man race between Davis and Lillard at this point.

The Classical is having a pretty sweet series called "Why We Watch" about random players that are why the author loves to watch basketball. Some stars- Kobe, Rondo, Z-Bo. Some close to star level, like Deng. And some random ass ones like Hinrich or Pekovic (who is admittedly awesome).

I recommend the Sheed one, just for the artwork.

I hope to be able to laugh at that post at some point in April or May, and if the Lakers are lucky, in June. In a rather niiiiiiiiiiiiiice victory last night against Phoenix, the Lakers scored 114 points, a season high, and MWP somehow made 5 3-pointers (he shot 10 of them). :p This Gasol pass to Howard in the 4th was rather exciting:

Before the game, there was a ceremony to honor Kareem Abdul Jabbar, before the unveiling of his statue. I watched most of it, and I thought it was nicely done. The statue itself looks great, with the appropriate pose for a Kareem statue to be in.:
