Need help with Lightsaber Hilt ideas/designs

Well... something like it. You know on your website where there's the droid illum. tut? I took a quick look at that and just made a (big) variation of the lighting type, array and shadow params.

Anyhow, now I feel bad about hijacking this thread. Maybe PM will forgive me if I remind him that he wants to use the saber. A new design will be made tomorrow.
Pixel, do you want it to be a "regular" saber or do you want it to have some original concept added to it? Also, it must be buildable (gm?), right?

Well, I think I have all I need. But like always, I'm always open to new ideas. So if you guys want to keep posting new ideas, go right ahead.

 

Cool as it is, I'd say speed up the ignition process. A lot.

If a Jedi was being shot at and pulled that off his belt he'd have a hole in his head before the beam was half focused.

Very cool design and execution, like I said, but impractical.

How'd you get the inner ignition sounds? I would guess you smoothed out the "real" ignition sound fairly heavily and added some reverb but I'm probably wrong.

Yeah I totally revamped the saber sound, sounds kool, huh?
About the ignition process... The speed is mainly for demonstration reasons. How else would you savour the effect if it was 20 frames long? My bro said the same when he first saw it.
If you want, I can make it alot faster, but It'd seem pointless right now.
The speed of the ignition depends on how fast the Jedi would slide his/her finger over the LED (like a switch, only flat).

In this clip, the "invisible" finger slides along the LED slooowly, so you can see what happens.

Ah, so the LED bar isn't just the indicator, but the activator! NICE idea!

You could have quite a tense scene with this with the Jedi deactivating his saber...but only just at the edge of being deactivated. A flick of the thumb and it's back to battle.

Or a warning as he threatens someone with it as he slowly slides his thumb...

Very cool.

Personally I would still like to see and hear a "full-speed" test. Just 'cause the sounds are cool.
