I think the Ambassador was also influenced by having to build a studio model within budget and time constraints.

Drex's reimagined Ambassador class (based on the original painting) is pretty neat, it looks like a step up from the B while introducing the organic curves of the D.

Ooo- I've never seen that rendering before. That's gorgeous. That's also the first time I've ever liked the Excelsior-like heat vent/accordion ridges on the neck too.

Looking at one of those F pics again, I also think I rather like how, at least from this angle, the saucer actually looks kinda like the Trimaxian Droneship from Flight of the Navigator (though a bit stretched, as if in mid-morph towards it's angular flight mode).

I will say that I think the Ent-F is the best looking original ship design to come out of Cryptic yet.

Did anyone here watch The Captains? Beforehand I was rather afraid that Bill's ego would get in the way of an interesting interview and sadly enough it did. At some point he was talking more than the person he was supposed to be interviewing. :p

I enjoyed it, though I was hoping there would be more talk of the shows themselves in addition to how it's affected the actors.

So I popped into Star Trek Online just to see what's going on. It's improved a lot since I left (early 2010) but still feels like it's missing something. A sense of exploration and wonder for a start. And the graphics still look really dated, even when pushed to the max. But damn, you can't beat scenes like this. =P~

    [image=http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6149/6021659030_8ffd533c67_o.png]

I also had some Cryptic points from who knows where, so spent them on this:

Who cares if it's not in the right timeframe, still looks cool!

I was playing it on and off up until about a month ago, and I'll get back to it soon, I'm sure.

I was sad because of all the ships at my level, there were none that suited me that I felt fit within the rules of starship design, so I went with a retrofit Excelsior class. 150 Years later and that design is still bookin.

Retrofit? I don't suppose that's referring to the Enterprise-B version? I like that type. :p

It also suffers the MMO syndrome of having to visualise all the fancy upgrades. So you have ships plastered with Borg (I assume) tech and crazy coloured paint jobs. It looks ridiculous.

    DS9 411: Homefront
-Premise: Sisko is recalled to San Francisco after a terrorist bombing reveals that Changelings have reached Earth.

-T2Q Comments: Tholian observer- how hot. Changelings on Earth. Brock Peters from Star Trek 4 & 6 as a different character... "No, Sisko, I AM your father!" ;). General Hague...I'm assuming this is the episode that created the doublebooking that lead to his B5 character being killed offscreen and JMS's subsequent revenge on the set of Jeremiah. Not-Dr Leah Brahms. Nog returns.

I have a suspicion regarding a twist I sense coming... hmm, no, the timing with the Admiral/pidgeon incident and Sisko/his father doesn't work- I really thought the father had been replaced by a Changeling (not eating, not seeing a doctor, etc)...unless there are two Changelings... ha, at least the episode is addressing up the theory.

It's interesting to see them addressing the notions of paranoia and the utopia of Earth- it calls back to the whole "It's easy to be a saint in paradise" speech by Sisko earlier in the series. I don't think it has a huge amount of weight to it yet, but Part II could resolve that- still, advances the Dominion War plotline. Definitely Essential.

Trivia: This episode was originally developed as the 3rd season finale, with the Changelings destabilizing the Federation to the point of civil war, making the Vulcans withdraw from the Federation and the cliffhanger being a Starfleet ship opening fire on a Vulcan ship near Earth.

When Paramount told them not to do a cliffhanger finale, they did The Adversary instead, and intended to make Homefront the 4th season opener. However, Paramount's further instructions to shake up the show between seasons led to the introduction of the Klingons and Worf, which pushed Homefront back to mid-season.

This episode was an intentional misdirection to convince the audience that martial law was a good thing, then show them how wrong that feeling is in part II. This is the first time we see Sisko wearing a TNG style uniform since the pilot. There was disappointment that they didn't have the necessary money for this two parter (but would have, had it not been Way of the Warrior).

The fans and producers were not fond of how the Federation president came across here, with the latter seemingly unhappy with the performance. The writers saw him as a Jimmy Carter type character. The president makes reference to there not being a state of emergncy on Earth in a century, with exception to the Borg incident. This could refer to either the V'Gar incident or the Whale Probe attack. Rene, Dorn and Peters all appear in this episode and all played supporting characters in Star Trek 6.

    DS9 412: Paradise Lost
-Premise: While Starfleet tightens security measures on Earth, Sisko and Odo discover that Admiral Leyton is deviously plotting to take over the planet.

-T2Q Comments: The Starfleet intrigue is an interesting addition..I almost think this conversation should have been the cliffhanger moment. Excelsior vs Defiant- nice. The coup plotline is much more interesting than Part I, though I'm glad they made it a two-parter and didn't try to rush it- though it's unfortunate we have yet another Starfleet Admiral-Gone-Bad.

The coup plotline is a bit of a diversion from really addressing th

Normally the Excelsior is a lower-class level ship. Retrofit simply means that it's a better version of the class for high level players. Though mine does have the additional impulse engines and the secondary hull addition that the Ent-B had. ;)

Either way you dress it up, the Excelsior class it one of my all time favorites.

Homefront and Paradise Lost were pretty cool. I'm glad they didn't make it a big cliffhanger or season opener though. It might've set off a big Earth paranoia theme for the 4th season making it too similar to B5.

    Some more eye candy:

Well, going by what I've read, when it was the finale/premiere, it was supposed to help kick the Dominion War arc off as the show's focus. Instead, they took the "detour" with the Klingons and postponed the Dominion War material.

Plus, imagine what the coup battle between Federation forces could have looked like if it had at least some of Way of the Warrior's budget.

And, with that first pic, seems like they've got some serious light bulbs on that bridge, ha.

He also made sure that the spots go all the way down, too. ;)

"Raise shields, target their brOH MY GOD MY EYES! I'M BLIND!"
    "I'll kill the power, sir."
    "No time! Eject the core!"
    "Sir?"
    "You heard me!"

"****! Even in the future, nothing works! Ok, fine, initiate self-destruct!"
    "What? Why?!"
"We gotta turn these lights off somehow- and if that means blowing up the ship to do it, then so be it! From Hell's heart, I switcheth thee off!"

Ha, I thought that would come up.

When I pre-ordered it I got a bonus Trill Joined race (as opposed to just plain Trill), so I selected it just to check it out and thought she didn't look too bad. I changed it to blonde so she didn't look too much like Dax, and then as Quest said, we know the spots go all the way down, so let's see it! It's actually the miniskirt and boots from the Original Series uniform set, with the DS9 top. You could spend hours just playing around with the hundreds of uniform combinations.

Yeah the bloom was high to try and replicate the look of JJ Abrams Star Trek. No lense flares though. :(

I'm really surprised there hasn't been any Abrams-verse items in the game yet. I would have expected the BIG-E as a ship by now at least.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're not. I like the Abrams-verse just fine, but it needs to stay out of the Classic Trek timeline (which honestly has jumped around a few times itself).
