Then maybe you ought to hold up your end of doctor/patient privelege.

That's not how doctor/patient privelege works. The patient can discuss his case with whomever he/she wants because it's their personal issues that are on the table and the doctor isn't disclosing his her about him/herself personal info to the patient. It is the doctors obligation to keep his/her mouth shut.

I don't know if his post was damaging, but it was certainly uninformed and pointless, but instead of derailing this thread...... I would say that if an appropriate set of guidlines were established by the administration for an adult forum, it could be quite successful.

I'm not sure if I made things clear in my first post. The Senate is able handle responsible discussion of more mature issues, and has done so for well over a year now. There's no shortage of existing threads to that end.

I like the idea, although if it was created now I'll have to wait one month and one year for me to post there because of my age. The problem is how does one go about proving your age on the internet?

From Xie: "I'm just asking you to stop this "Make me a mod" campaign, complete with full sucking up action."

Please leave Stridarious alone, all because he is extremely polite and helpful in most topics doesn't give you the right to tell him to shush. Why do you assume that he is sucking up because he agrees with someone?

Are not the majority of posters at TFN, 16 and over? Why supress the masses their right to free speech for a few kids?

You know, Michael, you can always come to us if you need to talk about stuff. The Books staff is all 18 or over I believe, and I know we would've liked to hear from you during your recent troubles. We're at least as reliable as these mooks. :)

Most of the adult issues are already dealt with in the Senate, and if you want to talk about something that doesn't belong in the senate, there are special JCC threads for that.

Are not the majority of posters at TFN, 16 and over? Why supress the masses their right to free speech for a few kids?

Using that logic, we should allow pornography on the board since a large amount of users are at the legal age to view it. This is a family board that tries to mostly be appropriate for anyone above 13. Your "freedom of speach" (which by the way, doesn't exist on a private message board) can be expressed in the Senate or the JCC. If you want to post something too inappropriate for the current rules, post it on another message board.

As previously mentioned by KW, the Senate Floor serves the need for a forum which discusses more serious Community-type issues.

Personally, I don't think we should be adding anymore forums to this already morbidly obese system unless they somehow relate to a previously unrepresented aspect of Star Wars.

First off, I understand your situation, Gatherer (in as much as someone can, second-hand), but I don't think the logic of "because we don't have a forum that discusses X, we need one" works. This is first and foremost a message board for fellow SW fans to come discuss aspects of the movie, and in the process, get to know one another.

If this were some huge Omni-Board, with no real focus except to provide a place to discuss anything and everything under the sun, then, yes, it would make sense.

But not here. There are literally hundreds of sites out there dedicated to discussing exactly what you're talking about - you'll find people with relevant experience, knowledge, and insight. Here you'll find a bunch of SW geeks trying their best... If you really want a place to discuss it, they're out there. You may have to venture beyond the 'safety' of the JC, but trust me, spend a little time at another message board dedicated to what you're looking for, and you'll never look back here for that kind of discussion. The JC just isn't the place that's going to give you what you're looking for in that regard, Gatherer.

The internet is a huge, huge place. The JC exists to fill a discussion niche.

    [obi-wan]This isn't the niche you're looking for. [/obi-wan]

On this issue, I reakon Vert is right. It would be cool to discuss things like porn and depression and drugs and so on but why does it matter if you discuss it on a nerd website about Star Wars, there would be better people suited to your chosen 'adult' conversation elswhere, and being nerds, most of the people here have the ability to google their way to finding another forum site that caters to this stuff.

I guess it IS a pity you can't up your post count on this board though. Alas.

    Oh, and

Please leave Stridarious alone... ...Why do you assume that he is sucking up because he agrees with someone?

You could make a hundred-page thread on that, it isn't worth discussing.

    Knightwriter,

From my personal experience, the mods of the Senate still DO act as the thought police.

If the mods do not agree with a topic, they lock it, even thought it could be an intelligent, original, thought provoking subject.

Remember, mods do not OWN a forum, they must guide a forum in regards to the rules, not guide it in regards to their beliefs and thoughts.

There have been extended discussions on all three of those things in the Senate.

If the mods do not agree with a topic, they lock it, even thought it could be an intelligent, original, thought provoking subject.

    Two points to that.

First, a Senate moderator doesn't have to personally agree with an issue or stance for it to be discussed in the Senate. Second, there's a guideline or two for making Senate threads, so if those aren't followed, there's a chance a thread will be locked (as I just did with a thread for that reason this morning).

Remember, mods do not OWN a forum, they must guide a forum in regards to the rules, not guide it in regards to their beliefs and thoughts.

Do you have any examples of a Senate moderator guiding things in accordance with their own beliefs and thoughts?

Ok, here's my thoughts on the current state of this thread.

People are asking for a forum where they can discuss adult things. There are two options

1)Only people over a certain age would be allowed in
    This will never work

2)Anyone is allowed in, but they must understand that it is a forum for serious discussion on mature topics.
    This is the Senate

Why are we still debating it?

While I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this (too many typos)... the threads you posted could easily have fit into the already existing Suicide/Depression threads, and would not have been received as shameless attention-seeking spam.

Could you translate into english and provide examples? :p

Like it has been said before, there are plenty of adult discussion boards out there. There are things you can't discuss on this board (Like what's the best way to 'do it'). But there are plenty of opportunities for intelligent, mature discussions, especially in the Senate. I like it that way.

    1) I hope you're not. You've got a lot to live for even if you don't realize it. Except for a tad too much SPAM at times, you're a valuable member of the board.

    2) What does that have to do with this thread?
