I bought the DVD Galactica series to watch again the episodes. I don't understand why the new episodes does not have when the Battlestar Galactica was able to reach Earth.

Why is not in the new episodes?

I'll watch it, but it's a passable sci-fi series at best. I'm not impressed with all the changes they made (Starbuck a chick?! Hello!!), but it was a decent mini-series. I'll check it out to see how the series does.

Maybe because they haven't gotten that far yet. That was only the pilot series.

Ick, why would you want those episodes? They're HORRIBLE. They're running a marathon of the Galactica 1980 ones today on sci-fi and I'd forgotten how lame they are. Stick with the original series, you'll be happier.

No. In the old series. They reached Earth and they helped the military.

In one episode they traveled to World War II and tried to stop something, but right now I can't remember exactly what was the problem.

Only two episodes were about Earth and the series died out.

Oh, in the original series with Starbuck/Apollo. Yeah, that's odd that they didn't include those.

I'm not one for watching much TV, but I do plan on buying the series on DVD whenever it desides to come out a few years down the road.

The new battlestar galactica is VERY good. I'm on episode i think it's 11 right now, and i've been loving every episode. The special effects are fun, the acting is great, and the storyline is fantastic. If you don't watch this, you'll be missing out.

It add an element of suspicion to the show. How do you know the person you're talking to is really human.

Suspicion, sure, but it seems like a copout. I mean, look to the Species movies, or the recent "Anonymous Rex" which aired not long ago. I admit that I didn't see it, but Rex looked like a dog. Having a babe disguise in Species may look to add suspense but it's really just a tool to get more guys interested in the film.

The robot-looks-like-a-human bit has been done enough elsewhere too: Terminator, Aliens, etc. etc.

I would rather have robots that looked like robots. That they didn't have the money to make them look like the I Robot robots or something shouldn't have mattered.

I can accept time or financial contraints as legitimate but unfortunate reasons to go that route, but I don't have to like it.

    Signed,

    Cantankerous Old Guy

    Hell ya,
I watched the new miniseries and I was very impressed. I felt the spirit of the original series but the new take on the show is great too. I will definetly be watching this show.

Oh please. Maybe everyone should have fros too, ooh ooh ooh, and that damned kid and a robo-monkeydog can go on the missions in this one too! Yeah, that was so great in the original. "Aww Boxey, you stowed away? Here, take this gun, you have point."

From what the Brits have been saying over on the BSG boards, this is a solid show. Try approaching it with an open mind. Hell, if your beloved Richard "Apollo" Hatch was able to do it, fans should too.

    End of rant.

    They reaired the miniseries.

Some miniseries. [face_plain] Jeez, when it first aired... what, a year ago? I thought we would get something the length of Taken or Band of Brothers. But no, all that we got was some slightly-longer pilot episode for a series that wasn't even produced yet.

Anyway, I'm looking foward to tonight's episode.

That was Battlestar 1980. It only ran for six episodes because it sucked.

There is a general rule in the media industry:

    old version > remake

But this remake in particular is better than the original by leaps and bounds.

Less than an hour before air time. w00t!

Yep, this remake is infinitely superior to the original. There's just something about following up the apocalypse with a trip to a casino that just doesn't seem quite right...

Sorry to all you purists, but considering that the new series is doing quite well overseas, and that it will most likely do well here, this BSG will be around for a while.

I've been a big fan of the original show for many years now, and personally, most of the changes made are rather crappy.

However, the crappy changes are taking a great show down to a pretty good show, and are being executed rather well, despite being crap.

In conclusion: This adaptation > Jackson's LotR. :p

It's not the original, but I'm tuning in. Definitely better than 1980 at the least. I was watching that yesterday and today, and even though it seemed shoddy when I first saw it years ago, it never seemed THIS unmanageably bad.

Oh, and Boomer is hot. Never thought I'd get to say that in my life.

Jackson's LOTR was an adaption, but this series is not. It's total reimagining.

    Oh, and Boomer is hot.

You are 100% correct, sir. Now off to watch it, I am.

So far, this is pretty good. The situations are definitely more serious and the reactions of the people more realistic than the original series.
I guess the problem lies within the belief of many that BG is something that is representative of 70s schlock and was never really meant to be taken seriously. I own the original series (minus 1980, thank God they are more or less ignoring it) and while it is a great show to watch for fun, it really isn't very good overall.
