My deepest sympathies, dp. Few things are as heartbreaking as the death of a parent. :(

Good morning besties. Like usual I was the first person up this morning and am now sitting in the hotel's close bar overlooking the pool and gym as I have my morning coffee.

Hi bezzies. I have a question, which may be better suited to the feminism thread, but...well, you're my bezzies. So, people can wear what they want, and if a woman chooses an outfit that could be considered skimpy, and someone has a problem with it, it's the objector's problem. Like, some school dress codes are a bit over the top, and some girls have been kicked out of prom and such due to their outfits, and it's "too distracting for the boys". I'm definitely in the school of thought that that is the boys' problem.

And then I just read an article about people complaining about Karen Gillian's outfit in the new Jumanji film because it's too skimpy and objectifying. (An outfit Gilliam herself has no problem with)

So I suppose my question is, what to do with the contradiction?

Makes sense to me if this Gilliam person is seen as exploited by the "objectifying" studio.

i guess there's probably a difference between a 30 year old woman dressing however she pleases on her own time and a 30 year old actress being dressed a certain way by a film's wardrobe and costuming in order to appeal to some kind of audience demographic as part of a reboot of a film based on a children's book.

What I mostly object to, is a Jumanji remake. Was never a fan to begin with.

As to the outfit, I suppose more context is needed, but from the above picture it does seem objectifying.

Dress codes for "distraction" reasons as opposed to professionalism reasons are idiotic, and there will be hell to pay if either of my sons ever tries "But she was wearing a tank top and I couldn't stop staring" as an excuse for not getting schoolwork done. Or anything else.

As far as Jumanji, yeah, there needs to be a reason for that outfit.

As I said, Gilliam herself is fine with the outfit. However...
from what I've read, it isn't child size clothes. The premise is, some kids find an old video game, and as that's how arse kicking female characters were dressed back in the day in games, that's why she has the outfit. Her saying it's kids clothes doesn't really make sense.

So you're saying: not just scantily clad, not just exploited... but dumb too?

She's possibly just referring to the fact that the clothes are skimpy, as an expression.

The actual plot device does kinda sound like an elaborate ruse just to have a hot actress in skimpy clothes tho

God it's just the most Hollywood thing ever.

"We're making a sequel to Jumanji!"
"... The crappy Robin Williams movie?"
    "Yeah!"
"Even though Robin Williams is dead."
    "Yeah!"
"And it's been 12 years since the original."
    "Yeah!"
"And the entire point of the ending of Jumanji was there could never be a sequel."
    "Yeah!"
