Every other MCU movie is said to not feel like an MCU movie. Fool me five times...

 

This time it's different.

 

Then I won 't see it.

 

Judging by the trailers Marvel has reached the point in its evolution where each frame is so crowded with CGI that human intervention in the filmmaking process is no longer feasible. The entire movie is now procedurally animated through some kind of Marvel feature film AI algorithm. Disney has a vast underground complex full of supercomputers to run the movie simulation and then render it. Push a button, the simulation/render farm churns for 120 days, and then out pops a complete Marvel movie.

 

I'm still hung up on enjoying a film but having the complaint that it doesn't feel related to other films you enjoyed. Burn pop culture to the ground.

That's what my friend said, and I didn't pry because I didn't want spoilers. My guess, since I have NOT seen it, is that he enjoyed the story what what it was, but it didn't connect the story to the bigger picture of what is going on in the MCU. I'm guessing we don't get any cameo's like Falcon in Ant-Man or Dr. Strange in Thor Ragnorok. Maybe it's like "here's what going on with Wakanda" as its own microcosm.

When I saw the trailer for Black Panther, I thought "why not go see that?"
But of course, seeing people discuss the movie and taking it seriously has totally cured me from that inclination.

 

I don't know how you respect a noun, but you can show me some respect since I was trying to help you with your hang up.

I guess they don't count?! I don't know. I haven't seen it so just guessing on why my friend didn't like it. Sure, it sounds like it included people from past movies Freeman from Civil War and Serkis from Ultron, but maybe it didn't push the story forward and this was just a set up for Infinity War. IDK.

 

Okay, I apparently need to clarify - I don't care what the particulars of Black Panther's connections to the greater Marvel cinematic universe are, I am bemused by the fact that we have reached a collective cultural nadir where anyone could think "This film didn't have more explicit connections to other films!" detracts from the viewing experience. It ****ing sucks, I ****ing hate what cinematic universes have done to moviegoing, and when they have to etch humanity's collective epitaph in about 100 years due to our environment spiraling out of control I hope it makes the list of reasons no alien visitors should mourn us.

I mean like way down the list what with all the genocides and capitalism but still.
