wohoo i managed to find some time for a small vacation this year. just ordered a trip to dublin. anyone been? i've been dreaming about going there for like ten years so i'm super excited

 

I'm also very excited to report that I've sold my parents' house despite the radon gas and the EPA-listed contaminated groundwater from the toxic waste spill. It's a unique bulldozer-under opportunity for whoever bought it.

 

ken lets take the windfall from your sale and meet maia in dublin. we'll ease the guilt from probably irradiating a whole family with a pint or four of guinness.

 

it's a good idea. But we did a full radon remediation before selling. It's pumped through a series of filters and blowers into the next door neighbor's basement.

Dublin is awesome.

I was there many times for work. I had to deal with a few printers there. I got the company to book me into a hotel in the Temple Bar district and would go out each night, by myself, because you're never alone among Dubliners. They know how to have a good time.

Then the next day I would arrive, hungover, at my appointment with the printer, who was also hungover.

 

Dublin is cool. Although I wasn't old enough to drink when I went so I'm sire it would be way more cool now. But definitely also go out and see some of the countryside.

 

last and only time I was in Dublin, I was 10 years old, so also not old enough to drink.

I've never been to Dublin but I have read Ulysses multiple times, probably the same thing.

 

A good chunk of my ancestors left Ireland for a reason and I'll be damned if I'm dishonoring their memory by going back!

 

I feel like I'm wandering in late on this, but -- back in the day -- I found OkCupid to be (by far) the most nerd-friendly site. I mean, of "respectable" sites, not like AFF or Geek2Geek. Plenty Of Fish was okay but not great.

But, also, if you want specific things like matching religion, I did find some success with JDate and I'm sure there are others that narrow it down first to something in your preference zone before narrowing for nerd-searches.

Also, if you show up at the next Celebration, they do SW Speed Dating now there.

 

There were quite a few newly singled oldies at my class reunion who've taken the plunge with online dating services. It seems like a brave thing for a 50 year old to do, but also for anyone else too.

 

When my mom divorced my dad in 2005, he was exactly 50 year old at the time. He found his current wife on a dating site, I don't remember which one, but he had me take some pictures of him by his motorcycle. It gives me a little bit of a chuckle thinking about it and I'm glad he's happy, but I'm not a fan of the woman at all.
