ST New Canon Material (novels, TV shows, comics, games) and Eps. 8 & 9 - CAUTION: SPOILERS A'PLENTY!

I thought we needed a Thread to discuss New Canon meterial like (novels, TCW, SWR, comics, and Anthology films)So let's begin!

Note that warring over what constitutes canon will be met with pitiless resistance from the staff.

 

I've enjoyed what I've read/watched so far, but going forward I'd really like to see some more pre-TPM and post-ROTJ, pre-TFA stuff.

 

I've got a lot of books to catch up on (and a couple comics but omg Vader Down so far!!) and I kinda love that feeling! It's also why I never quite finished reading all the Legends novels even though I bought all of them, I always wanted to go to my Star Wars bookshelf and be able to pick up something I hadn't read yet. I hate when stories "end" but I also fear the knowledge that I'll never get to see the "last" Star Wars movie because they will outlive all of us.

 

Is there a website or thread with dates when stuff comes out?

Wookipidia is good with that on their site look up timeline of Canon media.

 

have you read Lost Stars? It's a good YA book imo. The stories occurs during OT and a bit after ROTJ and battle of Jakku. Worth to read.

 

I'm looking forward to learning more about the Acylotes of the Beyond and the mysterious Fleet Admiral.

 

I think the Fleet Admiral is the father of General Hux.

 

I don't think the Fleet Admiral is Brendol Hux.

 

He would have had to rank up fast.

So all new canon material is game for discussion (but not the "old" EU / now Legends material), and the discussion of the new canon materials in here should tie into Episode 8 and/or 9.

 

I kind of have a feeling that it will be a remixed version of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

This Fleet Admiral enjoyed music right? So maybe instead of art he can figure out an entire species through their traditional songs!

A name like Snoke?

You know, Snoke and the Fleet Admiral act a lot a like. And the First Order is based heavily on Thrawn's Empire of the Hand. But nobody wants to connect those dots.

 

Did any reference to the recent books and comics make it into TFA? I haven't really any but I don't recall hearing anything in the film that sounded like a new reference except for C-3P0's red arm.

 

I really don't get the vibe of a dark side mystic from the Fleet Admiral and conversely don't get the vibe of a military background from Snoke.

 

Well...

- Poe Damerons parents were in the Shattered Empire comic
- Temmin "Snap" Wesley from Aftermath was a XWing Pilot in TFA
- Jessica Pava from one of the Journey novels was a XWing Pilot too
- Aliens from Maz Katana's castle and from Jakku have their own standalone short YA story (not really tie-ins)

C3PO's red arm story is yet to be told by a comic right?
