Of course they botched it from the get go since they presumed BB's head was the same size as R2's when, based on the toy leak, BB's head is maybe half the diameter of R2's giant dome.

For me BB-8 would be faster we have already seen R2 in the six movies they only time he was fast when he flew across the hangar bay on the Iron Fist in ROTS.

What's BB-88's function anyway? With R2-D2 and the other astromechs, they've got a whole bunch of gadgets and tools tucked away inside their chassis, but with BB-88 how would that work? And are they going to try to stick him into a droid socket on the back of an X-wing, because I don't see that working out either.

 

That's because it's not an astromech. From all accounts it seems likely to be more like the equivalent of a robotic Serf. A Jedi Knight's personal assistant.

 

Well the trailer did not reveal much expect for those what looked like parked pod racers engines maybe he is a parking attendant droid.

 

Well from the trailer, the vibe I got was that they were pushing BB-88 as sort of a successor character to R2-D2...except I'm having a hard time seeing how BB-88 will be able to carry out any of the same functions with that spinning spherical chassis.

 

Hmm, the 'pod racer' engine is a curious thing as they had the same prop on the Greenham Common location. In fact each X-Wing bay had one. Also in the teaser we can see Rey's ship parked up (the four engine job) which possibly gets stolen at one point.

 

Thats right but I wonder is it all part of a nearby rebel base or spaceport she was scouting from we will know soon enough what this droids purpose.

 

They've designed it all for this droid. It works too. The only thing I don't think happens for the droid is it piloting an X-wing with the heroes, as far as I know. I just put an article up about this today, actually.

I'm assuming that's original Snow Trooper armor. My has it yellowed.
