ST New Droid - BB-8

World or Land?

 

I concur, I'm sold on BB-8...they made this droid relatable, cool, and yes, as a man, I'll use the term endearing.

 

Is it weird that the movie hasn´t even come out yet and I´m already starting to like BB-8 more then R2?

 

I'm feeling the love, but R2-D2 is my hero.

... And I'm all male, baby.

BB-8 is adorable. Reminds me of my cat and my dog rolled into one.

Why did Lucas think of Jar Jar and not something like BB8? Jar Jar was for kids right? That's his intention, so what's wrong with BB8?
What happened to Lucas? All the money make him lazy?

 

Lol... I think Jar Jar was meant to be the new Chewbacca. Let that sink in.

 

I don't just blame Lucas, I blame everyone around him. I seen him talking saying "Jar Jar will be the funniest character" or something. Everyone around him looks so awkward, you can tell what they are thinking.
If any of them cared about Star Wars they should have all got together and said "George, I got a bad feeling about this". All they cared about was their pay cheque. Let the senile fool bury himself, who cares? I got mine. I would rather have been fired then take part in that.

He had a bunch of "yes men" instead of people that could talk sense to him. Yoda was originally suppose to be played by a monkey with a mask in the OT. If he did that during PT people be all on board and in awe.

Far from it. Let's be fair, hindsight is 20/20, and the new production team have not only Lucas' triumphs and failures to learn from, but also everything since Revenge of The Sith.

For example: people want practical effects. If you are doing a digital character, get Andy Serkis involved. Don't replace Chewbacca, just give people Chewbacca. You can't do much better than R2-D2 for comic relief in Star Wars, so stick close to that...

Jar Jar was among the first digital characters, so again, far from being lazy, Lucas was trying to show us something we hadn't seen before - much like he had done in the original trilogy.

And Jar Jar did appeal to a lot of kids.

You make some very good points, BB-8.

 

The Old X-Wing was built with a port for the correct insertion of R2 Astromechs.
Are the new X-Wings BB compliant? Are old R2 units able to fit in?

If this is so, does that mean we will see dozens of BB-8's rolling around in the Resistance X-Wing hangar?

 

I can't remember where I read it, but R2-D2 and BB-8 are the exact same width.

 

I hope Han doesn't be horrible to BB8 like was to 3PO. Maybe he learned to appreciate droids in his old age.

No offense to Beebee, but he's no Artoo in my book just yet.

That being said, Beebee seems like a cool addition.

Umm... it had nothing to do with "droids" as he got along with Artoo just fine. It was all about Threepio's whiny personality that grated on Han.

 

Considering that BB-8 is essentially a revised version of R2, I suspect he was going to something a little more different.

 

bb-8 is actually a revisited r2 prototype. this was mcquarrie's concept of a ball droid for r2.

 

Well, quite. That's my point. He's basically another astromech.
