impressive clone: point well taken about the whiney comment. are you gay-len kenobi as well?

the point of the exaggerated art-pieces was to illustrate that just because lucas sees something as an improvement doesn't mean that everyone else will. with that in mind, read my above post and let's keep this civil and on topic.

Obi-Wan had been living in a desert for two decades with no-one to spar with, he's old and he's well out of practice. Of course he don't move too quick! I swear if they make half the changes the fanboys want I am not buying these DVDs.

i'll be honest here. you keep going on with the ONE SCENE statement. well to me it's one of my favorites out of all the movies. why? many reasons. it's the last fight between Obi Wan and Vader, pupil vs trainer. But more so it's my sentimental value of it and its place in SW. I don't need Matrix type sword play for either of them to justify who they are as characters coming out of the PT into the OT. but i'm sure GL will change it somehow to complete his "vision" for the whole saga. so be it. I'll accept it and buy the DVDs, and if I want to see the original version, i'll plug in my old vhs tapes and watch them. like i seem to be doing more so of lately, vs SE that is....

Is there a way to transfer VHS to DVD? I have the ANH tape that's been digitised but not had any new scenes added and I'd love to have that on DVD.

    to zeek... and uw jedi...

touche! your points were very well made. i finally understand why this scene shouldn't be modified from those posts.

don't get me wrong, though. i believe that lucas's originals are masterpieces, but lucas is in a kind of enhancing frenzy right now. i still strongly believe that this scene could be enhanced to give the saga a stronger tie. like i said earlier, darth and ben don't have to be olympian gymnists. all i want them to do is fight with more grace and elegance with both feet still on the ground at all times.

(gives you a formal salute and steps back)

i'd hope to see more construcive posts on this thread when i get back.

    cheers.

Theres a game in YJCC where you pretend to be mafia members and when you are 'killed' your name is banned for 24hrs. But, the let ya come back with socks so you can still post around the rest of the JC.

Yeah, I agree with you completely zeekveerko (As I always seem to). Obi Wan didn't practice his force use on Tatooine because Vader and the Emperor could have sensed it. Vader is not going all out in ANH because he doesn't have to. If you watch closely you can see Vader is pushing Obi Wan away most of the time and doesn't need to exert much force againts him. Vader knows Obi Wan's powers have diminished and that is why he says "Your powers are weak old man." Also, Vader probably hasn't been doing much for the past 20 years either. There are no jedi to fight lightsabers with, he is suprised by Obi Wan's presense. "I sense something I haven't felt sense...."

Remember JMaster Luke that there's 18 years between Ep3 and ANH!!!
If you didn't fight for 18 years and you wre 80 years old do you think you could fight as well? They ARE human. Yoda isn't and he's incredibly strong in the force and so is Dooku. Obi-Wan and Dart Vader aren't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darth Vader isn't incredibly strong in the force? Well that's news to me, Yoda must have been hiding on Dagobah for the good of his health then.

those of you who are against modifying this scene, i see your points quite well.

but...i don't want them to exert much force and effort into their strikes. i just wanted them to swing their blades with more grace and elegance. it doesn't take a master blade swinger to accomplish that, no matter what age you are and and how rusty you've become. for christ's sakes, they were barely moving their blade! and the blades themselves look all out of whack. dellow felegates...this is an issue of mere aesthetics. trust me, it can be done without doing damage. unless lucas ***ks it all up, of course.

oh, and by the way...many of you may think that my favorite duel scene is either the yoda/dooku or the ob1/qui/maul, but they're not. my old favorite was the luke/vader from rotj. my new favorite is the poetic lightsabre dance in the dark between anakin and dooku from aotc. this scene (though lasted only a few seconds) spoke heavy volumes...and neither of them did world class acrobatic jumps and flips. both kept their feet on the ground through the whole fight. like i said, they don't have to move super fast. i just want them to be graceful and elegant.

    cheers!

oh...and by the way, i've seen 80-year-old men in beijing wield swords like yoda on speed without the use of the force. why should they practice it? everyone's using modern weapons nowadays and china will be the next superpower in about 20 years from now. it doesn't take the force to practice swingin that blade to keep in top shape. ob1, of all people, should know that. remember ob1's lecture to anakin about practicing his sabre skills during the coruscant chase scene? ;)

    cheers!

If they can re-do the lightsaber effects to make the ANH lightsabers look more like the ESB/ROTJ/PT lightsabers, then I'd be very happy to see them changed for continuity's sake.

If they can also add more of a 'flourish' to the actual fight, bringing in some of the fighting-style of younger Anakin/Obi-wan, without destroying the atmosphere conveyed by the dialogue, then I'd be happy enough with that change too. (eg. faster swordplay, occasional twirling of sabers, etc.)

What I don't want to see, is them making backflips or bouncing off the walls though! :)

I love ANH, but goddammit! That duel between Ben and Vader is just plain ridiculous. And please don't give me that "OLD & CRIPPLED" BULL$#!+. My frigging 80-year-old grandmother can swing a sabre much better than that. Sir Guiness is a brilliant actor, but he couldn't, for the life of him, swing $#!+. It seemed that he could barely lift that damn thing. I think that scene should be integrated with a better flow of blade-wielding. They can keep Alec's close-ups and dialogue, but the wide angles got to go. THIS SCENE NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

What the ***K is an 800-pound ewok?! I'd love to see a picture of that. Great post by the way. You nailed it, you fat-@$$ ewok. ;)

I don't know what you people are complaining about, the duels from ESB and ROTJ are still the best Lightsaber duels ever.

Well....The scene is fine I guess....I just think it would be good if the saber's were fixed as well as the sound effects which are dated.

I would be a supporter of them creating some different shots using doubles, but nothing that would REPLACE the fight, just spice it up a few notches.

I just watched ANH the other night and OMG the dual is horrible! The dialog is great and the scene works, but come on. In Episode I, Qui-Gon is supposed to be around 60. You can't tell me that Vader and Kenobi just lost their abilities over time!

BTW, alot of the AOTC fight between Fett and Kenobi is done with effects shots. They could easily add in some shots in between the current dialog that show that Kenobi is at the very least proficient with his blade. He looks like a total pathetic weakling.

    800-pound-ewok's rule!

I dont see a problem if GL just sort of redid the saber effects so that it looks like Vader and OB1 are hitting a little faster and more powerful......but anything more than that would be stupid
