    This could be another Tatooine, I suppose, since there doesn't appear to be any set guidelines for making the planet's surface features, other than "desert planet." The two on Sci-fi 3d are about as similar as a dog and a whale. The dog and the whale are both mammals, and the two planets are both desert. Or you could call it Sahara. Or Aridonis.

    I'll upload the files once I get home from my Academic League meet.

    Looks great. Is that texture really copyrighted? I'll have you know I'm a wiz with the rubber stamp tool in photoshop! :p

    Yeah, you could eliminate the copyright stamp that way. However, the texture is only half-resolution, and I trust that we're a bit more honest than that here. The only reason it's got the copyright stamp on it is that I need to create a business for economics class, and make $200 worth of profit. Selling these things is my business. Here's a link to my work on TurboSquid.

    Not a one. As far as I can tell, they're the best planet maps on the site, and they're many times cheaper and larger in resolution than the next-best alternative. And the next-best alternatives, all sold by "Marlin Studios" are created solely with LunarCell. I'd love to know if they sell anything, what with charging $13.00 for a 256x256 image. The nebulae images they sell are much better, but I'm pretty sure they're all taken straight from actual photographs, without any alteration whatsoever.

    I actually did a little bit of advertising in the forums on TurboSquid, but I haven't gotten a reply since I posted, which was in January.

    YES! *pumps fist*

    Only $419 in sales to go...*sobers up*

    Even so, thanks a lot, man. Just curious, but what are you going to use them for?

    In other news...I finished another planet last night, and got the file and supporting materials uploaded this morning. It's a gas giant, and it comes in five different colors: teal, red, magenta, yellow-orange, and blue. Changing the colors takes about as much time and effort as getting up to go to the bathroom, so I'm selling all of them for the price of one.

    To generate a bit more interest, I'll set a mini-contest in the topic both on here and on the Fanfilms board. The first person to guess the meaning of the name gets a free copy. Here's a few hints.

    The answer is in two words, and the name can be derived from those two words by means of subtracting letters.

    Hint #1: What do you call a Jupiter-like planet?

    Hint #2: What do you associate with the planet Jupiter?

    well... Name is Jovisar, right?

    Therefore, a jupiter-like planet is "Jovian" hence the first 4 letters. The 'sar' bit? Try this obscure googleated website: The Avalonian Catholic Church Symbolism

    From which, I quote:

    He was originally a bank clerk, but soon set himself up as an occult propagandist, calling himself Sar Merodack Peladan: Sar being the Assyrian word for mage-king, and Merodack the Chaldean god associated with Jupiter.

    That's close enough, surely :p

    Hey. How about 'Gas Giant', just a guess.

    Anyway, I will be needing a planet texture for my next film, I was hoping you could make one for me but I guess you are selling them so... :(

    You've got the first part right, Iyidin. As to your guess at the second....o_O. It's a lot simpler than that.

    And would you mind giving the two planet maps you downloaded ratings and/or quick reviews, Andrew? COnsidering that people do actually look at them, it might help with sales. Thanks.

    I'll be selling them until May. Then I'll resume giving them away for free and responding to any reasonable requests for original planet maps. Would be nice if you could just order one now and help me to inch ever so slowly away from the impending doom I face in economics class, though.

    Anyway...I've been working full-swing on planet maps lately, and I pumped out two quick ones over the course of today and yesterday.

    [image=http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/Lunares_Preview.jpg]

    [image=http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/Lunares_Profile.jpg]

    Lunares...another meaningful name. Luna (Earth's moon) + Ares (Greek god of war, Roman counterpart was Mars) = Lunares. Note Valles Marineris.

    [image=http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/Styx_Preview.jpg]

    [image=http://s92198053.onlinehome.us/Styx_Profile.jpg]

    Styx...my second river of Hades. Next up is Cocytus, but whatever that planet will look like, I don't know.

    Note: These textures are only 2048x1024, because of resolution limitations with the maps that went into them. However, unlike the rest, both of these have accurate bump maps, Lunares a bit more so than Styx. Furthermore, the stretching at the poles that almost always occurs with my maps is cut in half with these. You still can't look directly at the top, but you've got a larger margin of safety when showing it now.

    So you DO do them for free although not at the moment, that is really great, your really good at doing these maps.
