Amph New Project: SFF Book Club - Nominating books and discussing how it will work now!

I thought it'd be nice to have our own thread and sort of get this started. This idea grew out of our forum social thread, The "Hugo and Nebula" Lounge

Currently, I'm thinking this idea will start in a few weeks, after nominations and some hashing of particulars. I'd like to have the discusses directed in some manner... having some starting questions to go over or something like that. Ideally, I'd like to keep it in one thread to unite every thing, but if most people feel it'd be to hard to do so, I'm flexible on that. I was thinking we could just edit out the first post and put a brand new one in introducing each topic (as well as posting it in the appropriate place in the thread for a marker), as well as a clear title change each time.

Plesae start nominating books and discussing the idea.


Here's how the nomination process will go:

You can nominate however many books you like, but they must be Sci-Fi or Fantasy.

If you really want to nominate short stories, you may, but try to list a book collection in which they may be found, and stick to popular ones or the odds of it getting chosen for discussion are slim.

If you are nominating from a series, with smaller series, please just nominate the series entirely. For example, It'd be hard to have a week long discussion on Storm of Swords without having people bring in what happens after, as most who would want to discuss storm have also read all 4 books. For larger series, feel free to nominate smaller chunks (certain eras of the series) if they are separate enough to do so

To nominate: Give the title in some markup (at least) and the author's name, and then list your screen name underneath.

I was going to suggest something like this when I got back from my holiday.



I tried it on the UK board and it didn´t go down too well but as this is a bit more populated I think we should do ok here.´

I'd nominate the Malazan (Erikson) and A Tale of the Three Worlds (Irvine) series but they may not be widely published in the US.

I've read Return to Mars, but ages ago. I could still debate it. He's a prolific author with specified books.

I'd love to join Song of Ice and Fire but I'll abstain for now---I'm still unspoiled about Feast for Crows until paperback release. He buries so many cues in conversational whaffle, it's deceptively subtle. The answers to many mysteries are actually revealed early before their "official" end-of-book's revelation.

Oops, sorry I forgot about the title difference . . . I was actually just nominating the first book (I guess it would be BattleAxe) because I didn't know if people would read all 3/6. If anyone is interested, maybe the first three (the sixth one doesn't even come out in the US until about next spring) would be okay Whatever is easier.
