I saw this today at my local FYE store, but passed on getting it before I stopped by here to see if anyone here has bought this yet? If so, what do you think of it? Is there, by some cosmic miracle, NO trace of any prequel garbage in this release? Please let me know any impressions or reviews. Thanks!

If you'll read very carefully, this says very clearly "episodes IV-VI" very clearly. This the OT DVD+Blu-Ray combo. The excellent Prequel one has Yoda on the cover. There is no information on which version is on the DVD discs, but the Blu-Ray discs are the 2011 version.

I really wished that Lucas went full "Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker" with these sets and put Anakin on the cover of the prequel sets.

Well does anyone here have any input on the DVD discs?

If by "prequel garbage" you mean the fixes and additions that Lucas and dozens of others have so caringly put in for us over the years, then yes, thankfully all of that is still in there. The blu-rays are of course... the blu-rays. The DVD's are not the 2004 versions, they are 2011, however only with less sound/visual quality. It's just for easier access to it.

Yeah, that's what I meant by prequel garbage, lol. No reason to fix what was never broken. But thanks for the clarification... I'll wait for a re-release of the 2004 or 1997 set.

Um, the 2004 and 1997 ones have fixes and changes too. Actually the 2011+ editions have the least changes of any release yet.

How so? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I genuinely want to know. I mean, how can they have less changes, if they include the changes made for the '97 SE, the '04 SE, plus any other changes from subsequent versions?

I think Jarren meant the least new changes.

Anyway, I'm glad to finally see the 2011 versions (of all 6 movies) on DVD.

I already have the 2011 Saga on blu ray, 2004 OT DVD, PT DVD's as they were released, and 1995 OOT VHS(and Ep 1 VHS). Until either they release the OOT on blu ray, or release the OT on itunes(or release the saga on the next format after blu ray), I think I'm good.

I hope there's no "next format" after Blu-ray. We're at the point where the technology is so clear that it actually subtracts from the realism of the movie.

I recently bought a 70 inch, top of the line TV and the first thing I watched was the original trilogy. I was taken aback at how different of a viewing experience it was. When everything is so crystal clear, it becomes painfully obvious that you're watching actors on a movie set and not characters in real environments. It's like The Hobbit in 48 fps. Sure, high frame rate is a nicer technology and yet it met with mostly (but certainly not only) negative reviews.

That's what I meant. Changes from the PREVIOUS version, not changes from the ORIGINAL version.

If it ain't the OOT, I ain't buyin'.

(Full disclosure I prefer the 2004 version of Empire, but they absolutely RUINED RtoJ in the SE's)

Could you tell us the details? Particularly about the DVD discs. (the telltale signs if the DVD is the 2011 version is Yoda is CGI in TPM, and Darth Vader says "Noooo" when he kills Palpatine in ROTJ) Also, any special features?

Yeah, you can also get the DVD-only version of this release from Amazon, but the price is almost the same...
