Oh, yeah, JChef - South City is a nice area. My dad used to live RIGHT behind Ted Drewes on Chippewa. And I got married in that little park, Wilmore? on Jamieson between Chippewa and Hampton.

Hi all, thanks for the welcome! I am JawaChef because I am a jawa who cooks for anyone who will eat what I cook! I actually love to cook in rl so that's why! (lol) Married in Wilmore Park were you, Jedigal? that's cool. I live around there and love Ted Drewes a little too much for my own good!

 

Who's Ted Drewers, JawaChef?

 

Ah, Gemmy. Ted Drewes is a St. Louis icon, a must have for the crazy locals. It's the name of a person, for starters, and also the name of his business. What business is that? Frozen custard. Soft serve. Yum.

In warm weather, there will be people lined up at all 8 or so of the windows at the place, and the lines extend out into the street. Ted hires off-duty po-lice to keep the crowd from getting hit by cars. Even though the lines are so long, it doesn't take much time at all to get your order. He has the best staff in the world, all young people. I've never been able to figure out what their system is, but they get the stuff made lickety-split.

What's the big deal about some frozen custard? Well, I'll probably get slammed by other St. Louisans, but to be honest, I don't think it's any better than the frozen custard at most of the competition places.

BUT, Ted does have great flavor combinations. They have all kinds of seasonal specialties, like in the fall, a concrete with a whole piece of pumpkin pie in it! And one of my favorite year-round concrete flavors, I forget what the name is for it, but it's peanut butter cookies and a banana. Delicious.

We St. Louisans like Ted Drewes so much that you buy it in packed in pint and half-pint containers at many grocery and convenience stores.

And at Christmas Ted sells real Xmas trees from his parking lot, and I think the profits from that go to charity.
