As for things to do over here in Melbourne town, there's plenty! But it depends on what you're after. The CBD is full of quiant little bars and nice big pubs, most of which have cheap and entertaining bands to see. ACMI has an awesome Stanley kubrick exhibition on at the moment...uhhhm... If you go here: Mayor reckons Melbourne is Tops - The Official City Website! there are plenty of the more touristy and state sponsored events for your perusal. Maybe not as exciting as kicking the crap out of someone, but uh, I'm sure you'll find something to take your fancy.

ohhh where is the stanley kubrick thing?

 

It's at ACMI at Federation Square. Easy as to get to, just catch a train to Flinder's Street Station (the major metro station) and it's just opposite it. 30 seconds walk.

 

You can't miss ACMI...looks like a big bunch of broken glass and metal

Minotaur, Elizabeth Street, in the CBD It might be slightly overpriced and the people who work there start off nice, then get taken out the back and made surly, but it is easy to find for someone not accoustomed to the city

Well naturally the South island is the best.

As for collectable shops, theres only really one worth noting. Reel collectibles in arrowtown (just out of Queenstown).
