St. Lou, MO News and Announcements Official thread

I thought we could use a thread devoted to miscellaneous bits of news and announcements too small to really devote to their own thread. I.e. my "the graduations off/no it's back on" thread. No need for a whole thing for that.

So start announcing.

EDIT: This is not to say you can't post thread for huge bits of news or whatnot, but little incidentals should go here.

I've been contacting some of our old members to get our membership back up. So if anyone has e-mail/messenger of any of them let me know.

I did contact StL_Imperial and got this in responce:
As much as I would like to take you up on the invitation to become more active in the group, unfortunately I can not. I moved to Indianapolis back in Nov of last year. Since I moved here, I have joined the Indy Knights (local fan force) as well
as the 501st (the imperial costume group if you are unfamiliar). With all that and occasionally working with the SW Insider, I doubt I would have any
energy to do any more. Regardless of my situation, I do wish you luck on developing the group. It is unfortunate that St. Louis doesn't have a larger group and louder voice in the SW community. Again thank you for writing. If I was in St. Louis, I would love to get back on board.

Great to know he's been doing so well. Just thought I'd share this nice letter!

 

Wow!! He works for the Insider? He's gone to great heights!! I'm really happy for him!

 

I asked him what he does but he hasn't gotten back to me. I think it's great too!

 

Heh, I remember meeting him and being in some of the pics he took at the midnight show at Des Peres for Ep. 2. He was a pretty cool guy.

Wow.. That's nearly 2 years ago... Drat, I feel old again, and I'm not even 20 until next month!

And I remember StL_Imperial too. Met him at the Union Station meeting. Showed the pics he took at Celebration 2 for Insider. And pics of his Scout Trooper costume.

Yeah, I've been living in Houston since February of '03, moving back this August to attend Meremac for two years, and I'll be living with a friend and his family in Fenton. I've not been much into the boards lately, it started with my normal summer lag last year, but continued once I got a girlfriend, but we're over, and I've just been into aim and chatting lately. Someday I will return in full force though...

 

wait, so you're going a quarter of the way across the country to attend meramec? hell, I didn't even want to bother leaving the state for a university.

Also, I just decided today that I'm going to spend a semester studying abroad in Ireland. I'm trying to decide between two different schools (probably gonna go to the one right outside Dublin) and when to do it. I don't wanna do it this fall cause I was gone last fall in Orlando, but then next spring I turn 21 and I want to celebrate that here in the US. Not somewhere that I'll already be able to drink (Ireland is 18, but I don't think they hardly even enforce that). So it looks like I'm gonna do it the first semester of my *first* senior year.

 

I'm attending meremac because 1. community college's are a cheap way to knock out the first two years of college 2. i'm going to be living with a friend so i won't hardly pay any money for rent 3. i will be reunited with all my old friends from st. louis 4. i won't have to decide where to go for another two years and 5. i'll get away from the parents!

there are no negatives to this plan

 

i can find one. you are leaving the constantly hot houston for the city that has not had the same temperature for more than 25 hours so you have to pack long sleeve T's, short sleeve T's, sweat pants and shirt, jacket, coat, shorts, pants...and thats just for one month

 

A month, ha. More like a day. God I love this town!

 

i do too (for the most part). it's just kinda confusing to live here.

 

What do you mean constantly hot? Well, okay, I'll concede that. But it rains off and on so often and with so little warning here that it's impossible to tell when it's going to rain. and besides... I like the temperature in St. Louis! I MISS the snow!

 

Well I had typed a nice long thing here about snow, but somehow that got lost so suffice it to say that I love snow.

When in August are you coming back? Our "goodbye" party could turn into a "welcome" party if the timing is right.

 

goodbye party for who? It should be begining of august, maybe first week, or second.

 

You changed your avatar, didn't recoginze you. Goodbye party for our several members who leave the area to go to college. It's not a long goodbye, but their presence is certianly missed.

Heard from another lurker. This time it's SteelLepp:

I'm kind of a lurking member of the STL
FF. I don't live (quite) in the area anymore, I live in Quincy, IL,
about 2 hrs north. I do still have friends that I visit on the IL side
down there quite often & maybe I can join some stuff when I go down to
visit them. I'm also signed up for the Yahoo group, so I should be on
the list, if I'm not, feel free to add me.

I've seen you on the collecting & costuming boards in TFN also. I know
there was a collecting group down there when I lived there (plus the
Toyman show), is there a costuming group, or even a 501st/Rebel Legion
prescence there. I know technically if I joined the 501st, I'd be in
Midwest Garrison, but St. Louis is alot closer than Chicago, so getting
to events in STL would be easier. Or even costuming ops (I know there
are a couple of good "sci-fi" cons, but that's all I know about).

Anyway, I'll see what I can do toward becoming a slightly more active
member.
