In this thread, we post about interesting news articles we read during the day.

I am a frequenter of News.com.au and I found this little article:

    Breakfast bars not so healthy

Well, that does make me feel less guilty about the occasional Sausage and Egg McMuffin I'll eat :p

Who would have thought that fresh fruit would be the healthiest option? Fancy that!

Nasa's Rovers extended stay on Mars.

Spirit and Opportunity landed on Mars in January 2004 and are still working today, despite only a 3 month "shelf life". 33 Months later, they're still going strong and relaying valuable information back to Earth. Opportunity has done over 9kms alone.

I was kinda surprised no one has commented on the passing of belinda emmett. Which seemed quite sad. I mean, not like I knew her or anything, but you know, sad.

It was sad indeed. I'm surprised she didn't get her own thread actually.

We can talk about it here I guess. WEird how we're all people and yet some of us get a thread or a memorial, and most of us don't.

But yeah, I didn't have any idea she even had secondary bone cancer or was basically terminal for 5 years. Often wondered why she still looked so sick and hadn't gone back to acting after she went into remission from breast cancer. Very sad. For Rove mostly. And for her, she would have known this was coming for a long time. I'm imagining her just telling him to keep doing what he was doing, making people laugh even whilst she must've felt so crappy. Some people you see and you realise they were meant to meet and be something for each other, and they were, so yeah very sad. Way too young.

I fell horrible for John. Belinda was his soul mate, I can't imagine the feelings he would be going through right now, and it must be tearing him apart. I hope he gets through this...

She was ok with the breast cancer but she got bone cancer after that, Kahlan. That's what got her in the end.

I thought about starting the thread, but I just couldn't find the right words.

Stanthorpe had regular falls of snow this morning and all thru till at least 1pm the last update I got from other stormchasers.

Yup. Snowin' at the start of Summer in Oz.

AND it's cold enough still that there might possibly be some overcast flurries around Brisbane if you're kean for stayin up late and eye peeled on the skies ... juuuuust possible!

Snow thing was funny. I was talking to a patient at work on Thursday about the snow in Victoria and about how cold it was. I said if it starts sleeting at Stanthorpe then we're in real trouble.

Other cold type news. It's not today's news; last weeks really. There are huge icebergs off the New Zealand southern coasts. Now it's a novelty and the news coverage I've seen are about people going "oooh how groovy" which it is, but seriously, does this not disturb anyone else? HUGE icebergs breaking off and floating way away from the Antarctic? Did anyone see The Day after Tomorrow? ..well valid point, it probably was just me who bought the DVD.

Buy this man a drink. Loved how everyone is jumping on the global warming bandwagon all of a sudden. Too little too late? Maybe, there won't be a day after tomorrow.

Today's Australian paper (and online news sites) has a story on Mercenaries abducting children in Lebanon who were taken there by their father in a custody dispute. The mercaneries were hired by the mother and possibly helped by the Canadian government, to return them to their mother.
Crazy stuff. Have a look, abc.net.au/news and news.com.au are running stories on it.

Bit of a grim day. Girl, 5, sees parents decapitated by crashing helicopter; live in loony murders baby; man stabbed to death in borad daylight in sydney; policeman run down by car theif; roger waters to tour.

But as always, a lighter side: woman resuces husband from croc; P-Platers all a-tizz over restriction proposals; russell crowe chucks an inflight wobbly.

Oh, and warne + simone is the hot topic

sounds like a one-way ticket to depression, drug dependency, teen pregnancy and suicide. I spent my lunch hour feeling totally crap for that poor kid. Not that it helps, or makes me a good person, but the sheesh - life sucks sometimes.

Well, here's hoping that at 5, she'd be too young to make heads or tails out of it...
And that she has a family network, that can help her to grow into a reasonably well adjusted person.

Who the bloody hell is Lara Bingle?? :p

The DVD format war is over.

So say the American Porn Industry!

I can't say I'm surprised, at either the arbiter of this decision or the final result.

Apparently there is a doomsday clock...

Whoever thinks up these things evidently has too much time on their hands...
