Yeah I can't see the greens agreeing to this, which is good. Tbh, at this stage I don't care on what grounds people block this bill only that it is blocked.

Stupid idea, doesn't work, shouldn't be implimented - and atm I'm not fussed how it "isn't implimented".

    Big, gigantic Q. F. T.

I'm not going to labour the point regarding my feelings on the filter. Suffice it to say that it won't work. It will fail utterly at everything it's attempting to achieve. I's a technological impossibility, will be trivial to bypass, will lull people into complacency and a completely false sense of security, will push content like child porn even further underground, and is an incredibly dangerous step towards a repressive nanny state and full-on Thought Police. Not to mention that out of the other side of its mouth the government keeps talking about its iffy-spiffy National Broadband Network, the one that will have its speed-boost totally negated by the 50% slowdown the filter is likely to hand us. Labour needs to decide which side its bread is buttered on.

    "Claytronics" or, Programmable Matter.

    Sounds interesting, I thought.

"Programmable matter, or "claytronics", involves creating devices made of millions of microscopic robots that are to 3D objects what pixels are to a screen."

From the Pope - apparently women are the root of all evil and the contraceptive pill is causing global warming, pollution, and male infertility. Too lazy to dig up the link, should be able to find a story or two on news.com.au and news.ninemsn.com.au.

Hmmm, from what I could find, it wasn't the pope but a chap called... Pedro Jose Maria Simon Castellvi who said that - or so I assume. The article is very vague as to who said what in the report.

Contraceptive pill polluting the environment, says Vatican

From what I can tell of most of the links I've clicked on, they're mostly quoting the Pope saying Contraception "means negating the intimate truth of conjugal love, with which the divine gift (of life) is communicated." Nothing so much about the environment.

Now, extra points for who ever can be bothered to track down the report in vatican newspaper "L'Osservatore Romano." :p

The clicky link on ninemsn suggested that the Pope himself came out and said that the pill was causing pollution and male infertility. Given how sensationalised ninemsn is hardly surprising they got it wrong but still this is alarming that things like this get published.

... the pill releases copious amounts of female hormones into the environment. It is causing pollution and affecting male fertility...

Not sure where the quote apparently comes from but oh please, you can't just say something and brand it as scientific fact.

Of all the pics of the US Airways plane having made the emergency landing in the Hudson River in NY (eg these), a twitter user shows the site's usefulness to a 'T'.

Twitter aside, that was an incredible landing. No one's denying the skill of the pilot, but a lot of luck had to be involved as well. No one in the history of aviation has been able to pull of such a landing with no loss of life, and the technical breakdown of the event is gonna be fascinating. The last time someone tried to ditch into the Hudson was 27 years ago, and that plane crashed into the George Washington Bridge.

In other Friday news; For the first time in 40 years, an Australian Soldier was awarded The Victoria Cross.

I'd make a comparison to the US military and party favours, but you've all heard that rant before :p

Is he the current Stig, or the Stig that died on that aircraft carrier? Or are they one and the same??
