I think Martin has a great shot at winning the next election, and has potential of becoming a decent P.M. Being a former finance minister should give him some good insight.

I don't think there is anyone else who has a chance of winning. There simply isn't any major opposition to the Liberal party at the moment...

I don't care who it is as long as this person doesn't try to get rid of medicare, or is a pro war kind of guy. I don't like those type of leaders.

Ok, well Paul Martin will become the new PM and that's gonna be great. This guy, having been a former Finance Minister has great insight into the world of business. He's gonna help Canada become a greater economic presence in the world! Let's just hope Chretien doesn't screws Canada up to badly before he leaves office ...

I'm curious how Martin will "reduce Western separation"... He's promised to do it, but how? ?[face_plain]

There's only two ways to do it.

    1. Give Westerners a greater voice in Ottawa, which is what they want.
    2. Use the army as a tool of pursuasion.

This is Canada, so #2 is extremely unlikely (though in some cases necessary). If he sticks to his promise, he has no choice but to give the west more attention in federal politics.

    So much for majority rules.

P.S. - I'm a Westerner myself, but I think any Westerner who desires independance needs a good kick in the groin

Western separation? I'm out of the loop on that one. :p

Is there any part of this country that isn't threatening to break off? :p

And remember, previous PMs have gone to great measures to keep the country together. Don't discount #2.

Provinces that get the money they want don't want to.(Maritimes and Ontario)

Paul Martin is fine, he's for gay marriarge, he's a Liberal and he's for decriminalisation, hence he has my vote, not that it matters I live in a Liberal strong hold.

Umm, last I checked the Maritimes didn't get the money they want.

The Liberals will get even more votes in Quebec and Ontario and my guess is also in Western Canada. The alliance of the C.A and Conservatives won't help much, one extremist party with a dead one... can't do much with that.

I'd say the Liberals have at least 2 more wins in front of them.

Incase anyone has forgotten it was Martin who advised Chretien to sign NAFTA, which therefore has caused many plants to close in Canada and moved to Mexico. If you ask me I think the liberals have been in there too long for their own good, for all they have done is place their political ideals to whatever the Americans say. "But they didn't send people to Iraq!" you may say, but remember that troops were just sent, and will continued to be sent there to clean up the mess left by the war. Trudeau said that living next to Americans is like sleeping with an elephant, and all the liberals have done is rub the elephant's back. It's time for a change in government in 2004 in my opinion and my vote next year will show that.

Personally I think NAFTA is a good idea. Trade with the US is a good thing.

Paul Martin will probably be the next Prime Minister, but who knows. I just hope he'll be good at it. ;)

If Paul Martin is the Liberal candidate, I'm not voting Liberal. Normally, I vote Liberal. But I think that Paul Martin is about as dirty as politicians come.

Between his "sweatships" and the way he's pushing his boss out and the way that he's doing absolutely nothing to stop his followers from trying to push Copps out of the running, I really don't like the man. I'll vote Conservative or NDP next election instead of Liberal.

NDP will never make it. Glad they wont. They're far to left wing. It's great that they're giving money to the welfare an all... yet some people do work hard, and world prefer to keep some of their money. And not give it to people who just sit at home all day.

Liberal is a balance inbetween PC and NDP. I think it's the only way people can be happy.
