    This is created in photoshop.

This is not a fireball, the entire canvas is covered with the flames.

    1. Make a canvas at least 400 by 400.
    2. fill it with clouds. Make sure you have black and white forground colors.
    3. Now do difference clouds at least 27 times.
    4. Now invert.
    5. Now do accented edges with these settings:

    edge width: 2
    edge brightness: 22
    edge smoothness: 6

    And there you go.

But I have a problem. I have no idea how I could use this technique in after effects.

    suggestions???

EDIT: I did it in 500 by 500.

    EDIT2: I added a step.

You want to make a MOVING fire, or just use this static fire in AE? If it's the latter, just import the image. If not, this won't work in AE. Find another method, there're lots of them. I suggest going to Creative Cow and checking them out, or looking around and tweaking Fig's fire tutorial.

Okay I tried messing around with fractal noise and I came up with something. But I need something else to complete the effect.

I know it's possible to have photoshop filters in after effects but I never figured out how. I need to have accented edges in after effects.

    Anyone???

Nevermind. I found out how to do it by playing around and getting info from another thread called PS+RIPPLE.

There's a fire plug-in for AE, I messed around with the trial version of it. Can't find the link though, but I'll keep looking. It's awesome but it takes a long time to render. However it produces a life like fire effect. Well worth the purchase.

    EDIT: BTW BUMP!

Thanks, but with the filters fractal noise, invert and accented edges I can make a really good fire effects. I made a cool mov of it in after effects and I will have to show it to you once I find a good web host.

You know you can just copy PS plugins into Premiere and probably into AE.

Or you can just use Particle Playground. That works just as well.

Orrr, if you have some extra money, use ParticleIllusion from Wondertouch.

    I love that program.
