That picture of the Falcon leaving Coruscant is freaking awesome.

But - What did they do to the Caamasi pic? It's BLUE!

 

Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes this pic.

As for the Caamasi, I think it's simply a racial variation.

 

I have to say that picture of Kyp makes him look very 'Vader-ish'. I wonder if that's what the artist was going for, or if he's just supposed to be dark. Either way, very cool.

I liked all the 'grainy' ones. Completly opposite of the cartoon like drawings. Very nice.

 

I'm quite the opposite, I like the cartoon-like drawings more. But to each his own.


As for the Skywalker family pic, I don't think that's Leia's stomach. The picture has a grainy look to it and I think one of the grains is just positioned coincidently where her belly button would be. I am wondering why Luke looks like a drunk bum.

The Centerpoint pic is upside down! I know they did this in the book, but can't they bother to fix it for the website?

 

I don't like either. I like photorealism. And I hate that crappy Mara pic.

 

I liked some of the pictures but disliked others. For example the Falcon's escape from Coruscant is cool. As was the one of the Yuuzhan Vong space-slug thing attacking the Jubilee Wheel. But the Skywalker family and fire-breather pictures are poorly done.

 

Falcon escape was awesome. Kyp looks good for the style of drawing. Ganner/Corran was nice.

And to those who complained about the "grainy" pictures, I have to say as an artist myself that this stuff is meant to be dramatic, not 100% clear and easily visible. There's much more drama in a work of art like the Falcon leaving Coruscant than there is in the Jubilee Wheel picture. The portrait of the Skywalkers and Solos was highly effective in its goal to spotlight a family faced with war and death but determined to make it through. An artist strives to create emotion, not perfectly capture every detail with fathomless clarity.

All in all, it's a great gallery, and I can't wait for the book.

 

Another thing you have to remember is that WOTC sometimes alters the original artwork. They may do a color wash or change other parts of a work.

 

That Skywalker/Solo family pic is TOTAL CRAP!
It looks like the artist was going for coolness rather than capturing the charaters' personalities (or likeness IMO) from the books.
